One day I’ll make decent banners. WHAT SOFTWARE DO YOU USE TELL ME YOUR SECRETS.
Guess who’s been super inactive in all facets of my life for the past two months! It’s me! :”D
I feel like I’ve been in a life slump. Slowly getting out of it though (look! Several posts in a two week span, I’m on a roll!)
Last month, I didn’t post an individual wrap up because I didn’t read enough to warrant it. I read a book or two and maybe a couple articles but otherwise I just toiled away petting my cat. I feel like at this point I’ve finished enough to write about them.

Reading Overview for the Month(s):
Books:
Ralph and the Pixie by G. S. Monks. I received this book in August or so in exchange for an amazon review. It originally was a fictionpress story that I linked earlier in my blog. The author found my link, thanked me for the words and offered to send me a copy as the story had been turned into a book (obviously I accepted). I enjoyed this book, particularly the world building, but definitely had an issue or two with it that I hadn’t noticed when I originally read it almost 8 years ago. That said though, it’s worth a read. – 4 stars
Locke & Key volume 2 by Joe Hill. The continuation of vol 1, which I rather enjoyed. I feel like I left too much time between them though, I kinda forgot what was going on and didn’t really get the full impact of the newest events. That’s my fault though. I gave this one the same rating I gave the previous one. – 4 stars
Assassin’s Quest by Robin Hobb. The third and final volume of the Farseer trilogy. I read this one as a buddy ready with Zezee and really enjoyed it. There was one or two things that bugged me about it, but mentioning them would definitely be spoilerific so I’m going to keep my yap shut. Overall though, it’s a solid end to the trilogy and I still think about the thing. – 4 stars
Monstress vol 1 by Marjorie M. Liu. This is a really good, really atmospheric first volume to a series I feel like I’m going to really dig. Zezee recommended this to me on goodreads and when I saw it on the shelf at the store, I decided to nab it. Definitely glad I did. :”D If you’re looking to get into a new graphic novel series, I recommend this one. – 4.5 stars
Wonders of the Invisible World by Christopher Barzak. I wrote a review on this one, linked above. Overall it was decent. Definitely not my favorite read of the month, but I enjoyed it well enough. – 3 stars
Saga vol 1 by Brian K Vaughan. This is a reread for me. I’m working through the series again so I can read volume 6 without making the same mistake I did with Locke & Key. – 5 stars
Pokemon: The Deluxe Essential Handbook by Scholastic. Sue me, I like pokemon. :”D – 5 stars
The Egg by Andy Weir. The shortest read of the set and my favorite. I read The Martian by him last year and knew he has a short story out as well. I tracked it down and read it and it had the same sardonic tone to it – I loved it. :”D If you have ten minutes of free time, check this one out. – 5 stars
Did not finish:
The Invisible Man by H. G. Wells. Just wasn’t feelin’ it. Might pick it up again someday. Maybe.
Articles:
JAZ7 negatively regulates dark-induced leaf senescence in Arabidopsis
This is a bit of research I’m doing for a paper I’m writing for a class. It was interesting though. o:
Don’t Make Fun of Renowned Dan Brown
This article is a tongue-in-cheek review of Inferno, which bombed. It pokes fun at Dan Brown’s writing and storylines and while I generally enjoy his stuff, this article was hysterical. The author of it nailed it. I loved it. xD
Progress on 2016 Reading Goals:
- Read 37/50 books
- Picked up books out of interest instead of hype: 7/8
- Books unhauled from disinterest or dislike: over 30
- 2/16 16 in 2016 books completed
Progress on Book Riot Read Harder/TBR Jar Challenge:
Read a book about religion (fiction or nonfiction): The Egg by Andy Weir
November Currently Reading:
Life, The Universe and Everything by Douglas Adams
Weave World by Clive Barker
Ship of Magic by Robin Hobb (buddy read with Zezee!)
Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton (audiobook with the SO)
And that’s it! Hoping to post a book haul tomorrow. Otherwise, happy reading!! :”D
Glad you liked Monstress! I’m looking forward to learning more about that world. Sucks that Invisible Man didn’t work out though. I read it back in high school n liked then. And I need to get to Locke & Key Vol 2 as well.

Me too! And yeah – maybe it was just the narrator. I was listening on audiobook and he kinda grinded my gears and took me out of the story. If I try again, I’m going to just physically read the thing.
