Happy Hump Day!
Today’s rewind topic is books that I struggled to get through, which was the topic from… sometime. I went looking for it and couldn’t find it, but I know it’s there. š
5. Perdido Street Station by China Mieville
Rating 4 stars
This is the highest rated book out of the ones I ‘struggled’ with. It took me months to complete but I ended up really enjoying it. I think it’s just something about Mieville’s writing that slows me down. No idea what it is.
4. Embassytown by China Mieville
Rating: 3.75 stars
Notice there are multiple Mieville books on this list but I again, I ended up enjoying this one.
3. Rook by Sharon Cameron
Rating: 3.5 stars
As we go down the list here, notice my struggle reading the books turned out to be less and less worth it. That’s not to say that I didn’t like Rook. I really did like it, just not as much as the previous ones.
2. House of Leaves by Mark Z Danielewski
Rating: Currently Reading
This one I’m currently battling with. I’m liking it but it’s just so dense that it’s taking me ages to get through. I think I began in back in January or something. Hopefully the end will justify the means.
1. A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess
Rating: DNF
And this one I really struggled with the most, obviously. I couldn’t even finish it. I fought with this book for a few months probably before just calling it and giving in. I will likely never try to pick it up again.
.
And that’s it! Happy reading!
I’ve heard the same things about Rook so I’ve been putting it off. I love that it’s a Scarlet Pimpernel retelling, but is it the pacing that’s really slow?

It is slow, but it’s pretty good. It’s very atmospheric, which is lovely but probably lends a bit to the pacing, haha

It also took me months to finish Perdido Station! Iād breezed through the first half, but then the second half for some reason just slowed me down. Still loved it though!
