Hello, a tag today! Happy Monday morning – I’ll have you know that ‘UGH I DIDN’T PREWRITE A POST FOR TODAY’ is a really big motivator to get one out of their warm bed and into the cold air of my house.
So here am I in a fluff blanket, listening to British Christmas baking shows and writing this. I’m mostly warm-ish. 😀
1. The last book you didn’t finish?
A recent one, actually! The Gray House by Miriam Petrosyan. I was reading this book as part of the r/Fantasy book of the month buddy read, but ended up setting it aside after 100 pages or so. The book is 700 or 800 pages, and that first 100 felt like a slog. It took me ages to get through. I knew going in that some people just ‘got it’ and others didn’t, and unfortunately I turned out to be one that didn’t. Is ok. I tried.
2. The last book you re-read?
The Traitor Baru Cormorant by Seth Dickinson, in preparation for The Monster Baru Cormorant that came out on October 30th. I’m still currently reading that one, and am absolutely adoring it. Ugh, it’s so good.
3. The last book you bought?
For myself? City of Dragons by Robin Hobb. I bought this for a buddy read I have coming up with Zezee that actually starts today! It’s a bend on my buying ban, but I figure if I start reading it right away, it doesn’t add to my tbr pile now does it.
4. The last book you said you read but didn’t?
I can’t remember. I haven’t done that in ages. Even while I was in school, I tended to actually read the book.
5. The last book you wrote in the margins of?
My organic chemistry textbook, back when I was getting the bioinformatic concentration of my compsci degree. I would literally take notes in the margins while in class, putting them next to the sections the prof was talking about. Later I would go through and organize it all into a notebook. It worked for me, mostly.
6. The last book you had signed?
Peter Sagal’s The Book of Vice. I went to see Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me! live this past August, and he signed my book! 😀
7. The last book you lost?
I haven’t lost a book in ages. The most notable one though, was Death Note volumes 10-12. The story to that, can be found in my post titled: On Borrowing Books: A Harrowing Tale of Betrayal.
It’s some of my best work, if I do say so myself.
8. The last book you had to replace?
See above. Same answer.
9. The last book you had an argument over?
Probably not the type of argument this question means, but I mentioned wanting to replace my two little bookshelves with one big one (and then maybe a second big one eventually) and my husband rolled his eyes at me, to which I obviously responded by throwing a pillow at him. Does that count?
10. The last book you couldn’t get hold of?
Dog Man: Brawl of the Wild by Dav Pilkey. My cousin in law’s kid asked for this book for Christmas. Went out to look for it, couldn’t find it. Why? It doesn’t come out until December 24th. -_- Did he know that? Likely not. But unfortunately I won’t have time to go get it on Christmas Eve, so he’s getting other books. (He requested others that are actually out, too, so I still have material to go on.)
And that’s it! If you haven’t done this tag and would like to, you are tagged!
