The Spoopy Memes Book Tag! [Original]

Spoopy Memes Book Tag

Happy Spoopy Season, I’ve made a tag! I don’t know about you, but to me, memes are my favorite part about any cultural phenomenon, so I figured I’d incorporate them into a book tag. Buckle your butts, here we go!

  • If you’d like to do this tag, please link back to this post so I can see your answers!
  • Feel free to use the banner above if you’d like, and I highly suggest you copy over the memes, as they give the questions context.

Time to get spooky! What books will you be reading to celebrate this time of year?

I hope to get to the three above books, which are also the last three remaining books on my 10 in 2019 list. The first, Deathless by Catherynne M Valente was actually also on my Five Star Predictions list, so I’m hoping I’ll love it. The other two I also hope I really like, but if I end up not liking Deathless I think I’ll be crushed, haha.

Do you put up decorations for Halloween? If so, describe them! Even better, show them!

Right now I only have the one decoration. I’m spoopy, dammit.

What is the scariest book you’ve ever read? What made it so scary?

House of LeavesHouse of Leaves by Mark. Z Danielewski – While I didn’t end up loving every aspect of this book, the horror elements were on point. There weren’t any huge jump scares or anything like that, but this book made me feel weird. Unsettled. You read the writings about found footage of a man who lived in a house that was bigger on the inside than it was on the outside, and the rambling of the man who found the footage. You seem him, as he goes through it all, slowly succumbing to it. It’s just… unsettling. I know I said that already but it’s really the best word for it.

What’s the last book you read that truly shocked you, made your jaw drop, or made you chuck the book across the room?

Saga, Vol. 9 (Saga, #9)Saga vol 9 by Brian K Vaughan – Since it’s volume 9 and obviously a spoiler, I can’t tell you what shocked me exactly, but man. MAN. I finished this volume and immediately started pining. I was not expecting that. And now the series is on haitus and it makes me sad.

What’s a book that’s fallen out of the spotlight that you still really like and try get people to read?

Scar Night (Deepgate Codex, #1)Scar Night by Alan Campbell – I picked this book up back when I was a teenager and loved it. I’ve been able to talk a few people into reading it, but I don’t think it ever got the recognition it deserved. This book follows a young angel, an assassin, false gods, a seemingly bottomless abyss, and the city suspended over it by chains. It has hints of steampunk as well. Really, read this.

Are you dressing up this year? If so, what as? If not, what would be your costume if you were?

I am not dressing up! But if I was, I’d be oatmeal.

What is your opinion on the word ‘spoopy’, and memes that follow its theme?

I think it’s all great, personally. Memes, dumb stuff, I love it all.

And that’s it! If you’d like to do this tagged and I haven’t tagged you, please consider yourself tagged!

Otherwise, I tag:

Peer pressure, do it.

  1. I was just thinking I had to do this tag even though I wasn’t tagged, then I got to the bottom and saw you tagged me but I’d missed the notification 😂 This is so great and I can’t wait to do it! Thanks for the tag 😀

  2. Thanks for the tag! Scar Night has been on my list for ages (since you recommended it in a previous post) and I’m looking forward to reading it, but I’ve just been hopelessly slow in getting to it… at some point I definitely will though, so thanks for the reminder!!
