A tag today! This tag was created by Lizzie Loves books! I wasn’t tagged, I’m just doin it because CONTENT, MAN.
On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: A partridge in a pear tree!
The partridge stood alone in the pear tree. What is your favorite stand alone?
The Martian by Andy Weir – This ended up being my favorite book of 2015 or so, and it still holds its title. It’s a pretty great one, and lives up to the hype in my opinion.
On the second day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: Two turtle doves!
Love is in the air! Who is your one true pairing?
Honestly? I kinda don’t have one. I like a lot of romance ships, cannon and otherwise, but none stick out to me as ‘the one’.
On the third day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: Three French hens!
In the spirit of threes, what is the best trilogy you have read?
The Tawny Man trilogy by Robin Hobb is definitely up there. Man </3
On the fourth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: Four calling birds!
Since series usually consist of four or more books, what is your favorite series?
The Temeraire series by Naomi Novik – it’s a nine book historical fantasy about dragon warfare in the Napoleonic era. It’s super neat.
On the fifth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: Five golden rings!
One ring to rule them all! Who is your Favorite Villain/Antagonist?
Augh this question. I can never really answer this question. I don’t read too many books with villains.
On the sixth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: Six geese a laying!
Creation is a beautiful thing. What is your favorite world/world-building?
Robin Hobb again, but her entire Elderlings world is one of my favorites if not my absolute. I’m such a fangirl.
On the seventh day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: Seven swans a swimming!
Who needs seven swans when all it takes is one good animal sidekick? Who’s your favorite animal sidekick?
Robin Hobb again – Nighteyes! He shows up in I think the second book of the Farseer trilogy, and captured my heart. He’s such a wonderful wolf.
One the eighth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: Eight maid a milking!
Milk is so 18th century. Which book or series takes beverages/food to a whole new level?
Obviously need to go with Food Wars by Yuto Tsukuda – It’s a story about cooking competitions in a culinary school. It’s rather hilarious and all of the food looks like it’d be to die for.
On the ninth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: Nine ladies dancing!
Dancing is just one skill of a Lady! Who is your favorite kickass female lead?
Ella from Ella Enchanted – This story is a good one I think. The main character is placed under a curse to always be obedient, and though our main character deals with that, she’s still strong-willed and determined to live her own life. I really like her, and as a youngun growing up I thought she was really neat, too.
On the tenth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: Ten lords a leaping!
How about your favorite leading lad?
Already mentioned this series, but Lawrence from Temeraire. In the beginning of the series, he’s a naval captain who takes a French ship containing Temeraire’s egg, and once Temeraire claims him as a captain, Lawrence is flung head first into the Aerial Corp, the dragon division of the British military. I like him so much because of his sense of morals. He always strives to do what is right, even if it ends up being illegal, or having huge consequences. Throughout the series, he never loses this moral compass he has, no matter what happens to him, and I really like him for it.
On the eleventh day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: Eleven pipers piping!
What is your favorite book or bookish thing with musical influence? (It can be about music, reference music a lot etc.)
Rothfuss’s Kingkiller trilogy has a neat thing. As many issues as I have with this book, which you can see here if you’re really curious, I really like the musical dynamic it has. The whole music competition, the high prospects of musicians, all of it. I think it’s really neat.
On the twelfth day of Christmas, my true love gave ot me: Twelve drummers drumming!
Drum roll please…what is your favorite read of this year?
That… would be a spoiler. :”D I have a full favorites post coming out within the next week or two. You’ll just have to wait, hawhaw.
And that’s it! I know it’s super close to Christmas now, but if you’d like to do this tag, consider yourself tagged!
