I separated and reorganized my books by read and unread

Coffee Time

Hi! I went a bit stir crazy a couple weeks ago and re-arranged my fiction books. I decided to split them up by read and unread which is something I’ve never done before. I further subdivided them by author, but otherwise that’s it. Here was the process and end result!

This is the beginnings of the piles – left is read, right is unread, middle is cat.

This happened one evening when I had gone to unload the two book cases behind the chair. Needless to say I waited.

These are my unread. The stack over to the left are all books that are sequels where I’ve read the first or more and just haven’t caught up yet. The right are all standalones/new series to start.

These are all my read books, back on the shelves. I decided to put them in the cases behind the chair because I won’t need to access them as often as the unread books. Robin Hobb almost has an entire shelf to herself and it cracks me up.

These are the unread books. You’ll notice these shelves are a bit fuller than my read shelves. That surprised me too, as I own almost 1000 books and only have 230 or so unread ones. It took me a second to realize, but that’s because of manga. About 90% of the manga I own is read, and only about 10% is unread. Meaning most of my unread books are fiction, but also my unread fiction makes up about 25% of my collection, the rest being read fiction and manga.

I also got some tree spirits and now they live on my shelves.

And that’s it! During this process I also purged about ten or so books from my collection, a mix of read and unread. I didn’t bother taking pictures of them because well, I didn’t bother. I also didn’t touch the manga cases or the nonfiction case – all this was done to fiction only.

Lemme know what you think – happy reading!
