I’m going to Katsucon!

This coming Thursday, I’ll be piling into a car with a couple of buddies and we’ll be going to Katuscon in Maryland!

This’ll be my second anime con ever, the first being Otakon, which I attended this past August.

I’m very excited for this one. Currently I’m on a self-imposed book buying ban that will be over, you guessed it, on Day 1 of Katsucon… and then I’m gonna go nuts getting manga. I’m so excited!

If you’re in the area and are going and if we’ve spoken a few times already now, lemme know!

Happy conning!

Fantasy Bingo 2018!

Copy of Book Tag.png

IT IS HERE IT IS HERE IT IS HERE!

This year’s Fantasy Bingo card has been released!

Every year, r/Fantasy over on reddit hosts a year-long bingo challenge, starting April 1st and ending March 31st of the following year. It’s still plenty early, so you can totally go for it!

The bingo challenge is exactly what it sounds like: A bingo card is released, each square having a prompt for a fantasy/speculative fiction novel to read. The goal is to completely fill the card by March 31st, reading a book that matches each prompt.

Here is the list to the full rules. There’s a hard mode introduced this year too, for the super ambitious readers. All of it is detailed out in the official post, so check it out!

And without further ado, here is the bingo card for this year:

A couple of these subjects I’m super excited about, and a couple I’m not sure if I own a book for yet. There is also another post with a list of suggestions for prompts from other participants, in case you need some ideas. I’ll be posting a few posts soon with ideas of my own, likely one row at a time like I did last year. Coming up with books that fill the prompts is one of my favorite parts!

Anyways, if you decide you want to participate, let me know!! I’d love to have some bingo buddies!

Happy reading!

Beat the Backlist 2018!

Beat the Backlist

Hello! Today I’m announcing my participation in the Beat the Backlist Challenge, hosted by NovelKnight!

This is a neato thing that I came across the other day and decided that it would be perfect for me!

It’s one of the neatest challenges I’ve ever come across – what you do is sign up and you’re assigned to one of four teams. Each team earns points and at the end of each month, a member of the team with the most points wins a book of their choosing! So there will be twelve winners total – this thing lasts all year! 😀 (and the sign-ups are open all year, hint hint)

To earn points for your team, all you have to do is read books that were not published in 2018! So it’s perfect motivation to me to read the backlog of unread books on my shelves. None of the books I own have been published this year, so I have about 300 potential reads to go through! Any book counts – rereads, manga, novels, nonfiction, all of it! The only limitation is its publication date. 2017 or earlier, peeps.

So when this post goes live, I’ll use it to officially sign up and then come back and edit it and insert my assigned team! 😀 So if you’re reading and there’s no team here yet, you’re reading it super early and I haven’t been assigned yet, hawhaw. Otherwise if there’s a team here now, then I have one!

My Team:

Other things to note:

There will also be weekly instagram prompts all year to go along with the challenge, which are listed here!  I think this will be a fun thing to do! 😀

My goals:

  • Dedicate at least 2/3rds of my books read in 2018 to this challenge
  • Participate in at least 2/3rds of the Instagram prompts (btw, shameless plug: add me on Instagram, I wanna see all your lovely books)
    • (if you add me, be prepared to also see cats, coffee and alcohol)

And that’s it! Happy reading! 😀

Bout of Books 19 – Goals and TBR

Bout of Books

Hello, it’s Bout of Books time again! :”D I’ve been participating since…. Bout of Book 11 I think? So it’s been a few. I didn’t know this one was coming up at all until I saw Zezee’s post about it and had a mini spaz. So with it starting tomorrow, I’m totally participating.

For those unfamiliar, here is the blurb for the readathon:

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda Shofner and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, May 8th and runs through Sunday, May 14th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 19 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

This time around, the readathon is taking place between May 8th and May 14th, like the blurb says. Guess whose finals week that is?! Time’s up, it’s mine. :”D But! Guess who doesn’t have any finals this finals week?! Time’s up, it’s me! So I’ll be on campus working, but otherwise, I’ve got literally nothin’ going on – no assignments, no tests, nothing. So this readathon lines up perfectly with my schedule, yay!

Bout of Books Goals:

  • Read every day
  • Finish at least one novel (graphic novels dun count)
  • Participate in at least half of the challenges and make posts about them here

Bout of Books TBR:

  • A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J Maas – I’m currently about 25% through this one but haven’t picked it up in a few days. I’ll start Monday morning at whatever page I’m on then and just go from there.
  • The Broken Eye by Brent Weeks – Another huge book. I’m barely into this one. It’d be nice to finish, but we’ll see how it goes
  • Chew vol 1 by John Layman – This is the most recent graphic novel purchase for me and I think I can get through it pretty quickly 😀
  • Attack on Titan vols 12-14 by Hajime Isayama – These are the last three volumes that I physically own. There are 21 or 22 out currently, so I’ll need to pick up more eventually, but I want to read the ones I actually have first, hawhaw.

And that’s it! Let me know if you’re participating too! Happy reading!

Blogmas 2016!

Image result for christmas

Hello! I’ve decided I’m going to participate in Blogmas again this year, as I did last year. It was really fun last time, so I’m going to attempt it again.

If you’re unfamiliar, Blogmas’s full name is ‘The 25 days of Blogmas’ and it’s an event that happens during the 25 day count down to Christmas where you make a post every day. It’s a bit challenging coming up with material for that long, so one definitely comes across some interesting posts that you might not normally see. It’s very fun. So whether you’re a Christmas person or not, I hope you decide to participate, too!

During the middle of the month, I’m going to Malaysia. Those days, I’m pretty sure I won’t be writing. So if I get this right, I’ll have posts pre-written and scheduled to pop up on those days. So if you see me posting but otherwise not participating, that would be why. :”D

I’m excited.

And don’t even ask about my Nano. I’ve buried it. It’s gone. We shall not speak of it.

There will be a post up in a few days with a tentative post schedule for blogmas this year. If you’re interested in what I did last year, here’s the schedule I made for it.

If you’re going to try blogmas, do let me know. :”D We can be buddies!

Happy reading!

Bout of Books 17 TBR

Bout of Books

Guten tag! I’ve decided to participate in the bout of books readathon again. I’ve been doing so since BOB 14 I think? 13? Something like that. So not nearly as long as a lot of people, but long enough. For those unfamiliar, here is where you’d sign up to participate and here is the blurb from their site:

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 22nd and runs through Sunday, August 28th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 17 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

I originally wasn’t going to when I saw the dates – August 22nd through the 28th – it’s the last week before classes start, during which I’m working full time on top of 12 or so hours of commuting. But because of this work and commuting, I’ve fallen into a book slump. I’ve read a grand total of five or six books this whole summer and I miss reading more. So, I’m going to try this readathon to jump start me back into my normal pace of reading. Otherwise I’m afraid this slump might continue into the semester.

SO HERE GOES NOTHING, PEEPS.

Reading goals:

Read every day
– Finish at least three books
– Write a review for each book finished (can happen after readathon is over)
– Participate in at least half of the challenges

Bout of Books 17 TBR:

Product DetailsDeluxe Essential Handbook (Pokémon)    Slaughterhouse-Five   The Invisible Man   Saga, Volume 1

Ralph and the Pixie by G. S. Monks. I’m currently reading this and it will be on my TBR if I don’t finish it this weekend. I’m about 2/3rds through it and hope to finish it up before Sunday night, but if I don’t, it’s numero uno on the list.

Pokemon: Deluxe Essential Handbook by Scholastic. I’ve totally fallen into the Pokemon craze. I loved it growing up and lost touch until Pokemon Go came out. I realized there are 700-something of those little buggers now and I know the first three generations at most. So I’ve been studying. 😛 Yes, I’m actually reading this cover to cover. This is also a ‘will be on TBR if I don’t finish it this weekend’ book. Currently about 60% through it.

Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut. This will be an audiobook, because let’s face it, twelve hours a week in the car leaves a lot of time for listening to stuff. This will be my first Vonnegut book and it’s been recommended to me by so many people. So here we go.

The Invisible Man by H. G. Wells. Another audiobook, just in case.

Saga by Brian K Vaughan. Rereads for me. I purchased volume 6 last month and can’t remember what’s going on. So I’m just going to start at volume 1 and see how far I get.

I figure if I get through all the Sagas, I’ll pick up another physical book. Not sure what yet, but I’ll figure that out when and if I come to it.

And that’s it! Wish me luck and unslumpiness! Happy reading! :”D

Bout of Books 16 – Participation Announcement!

Bout of Books

Hello! Bout of Books is about to start again and this year, it couldn’t happen at a better time. My finals complete this coming Friday, the 6th, and then I have a week off before I start my fulltime internship on Monday the 16th.

Guess what week this readathon takes place. I’m tellin’ ya, it’s speaking to me.

For those unfamiliar, here is the blurb from the site itself:

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, May 9th and runs through Sunday, May 15th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 16 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

And for those who would like to participate, here is the sign-up post!

My Goals:

  • Read every day
  • Write reviews for each book completed
  • Participate in at least half the challenges

Bout of Books TBR:

UprootedA Storm of Swords (A Song of Ice and Fire, #3)The Time Machine

Uprooted by Naomi Novik (assuming I haven’t finished it by then) – This is a book from my latest haul and I’ve already started it. I’m digging it so far. Hopefully it turns out to be really good. :”D

A Storm of Swords by George RR Martin (audiobook) – You need an audiobook in these things, I think. It helps get reading done even if you don’t have time to sit down and read, if that makes sense

The Time Machine by HG Wells – chosen partially because it’s really short and partially because the copy I’m reading is borrowed from a friend and I’ve had it forever. I should really read it and give it back to her.

And that’s it! Let me know if you’re participating! Happy reading!

It’s time again! The Bout of Books readathon is about to start and like last time, I’ma go at it. For those unfamiliar, here is the blurb:

It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, January 4th and runs through Sunday, January 10th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. Should you decide you want to participate, here is the sign up post. This year, my TBR goes as follows:

The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J Maas
Addicted to You by Krista Ritchie
Heir of Fire by Sarah J Maas
Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling

And that’s it! I have no classes this week and work is gonna be super slow, so hopefully I’ll have plenty of time to get through all these books. If I decide to participate in the challenges, they’ll be done through this blog as well. Wish me luck and happy reading!
