Bookshelf Tour 2021! | Blogmas Day 28

Happy Day 28 of Blogmas! Just a few more days to go. Today I’m gonna show you my entire book collection.

Full disclosure: I didn’t tidy up my bookshelves at all for this. This is their “natural state”. Normally I would make them all nice and pretty but 1: I have a newborn and ain’t nobody got time for that; 2: the Christmas tree is still up and sitting in front of the shelves so I can’t get to half of them to tidy anyways; and 3: my TBR case is officially overflowing (as you’ll see) so no amount of tidying would help it.

So you get my messy, crazy, well-loved shelves in all their glory.

Also unlike last year, my books are no longer all in one room. When we set up the nursery, we moved my books out of there and had to divide the between the living room and the upstairs nook. So bear with me as this might be a bit disjointed:

Upstairs nook:

Overview:

The books upstairs fall into three categories: nonfiction, comics, and manga. About half of the nonfiction is my husband’s, so if you see something that doesn’t seem like my taste, assume it’s his. Also everything in Japanese/about the Japanese language is his, as are the DC comics. The manga upstairs is a combination of ones that contain graphic content and just stuff that wouldn’t fit downstairs. No butt manga in the living room, don’t want people perusing and randomly flipping through it without giving them fair warning.

The shelves:

I wish I had a better place for these shelves, as you can’t really “display” anything on them with the space being so tight, but I don’t really have a choice.

We’re currently renting and when we get to the point where we can buy a house, I’m hoping we can get one with the space for all the booky wonder to be in one area.

The living room:

Overview:

So as you can see, a bit chaotic. I’m hoping to make them “nicer” once all the Christmas decorations are put away.

The shelves in this room consist of manga, read and unread fiction, some comics, and board games.

The shelves:

And that is it! These are my books as of right now. If you spot any you really like, lemme know!

Christmas Book Haul! #50 | Blogmas Day 27

Happy Monday! Today’s post is all the books I got for Christmas and the month of December!

This is what I got:

The first three on the left there were gifts. One from my sister, one from my parents, one from my husband. The middle picture was also a gift from my husband and the right-most I bought myself before Christmas.

The nine above I bought using gift cards and cash I got for Christmas. Barnes and Noble was having a sale today where all hardbacks were 50% off, so I got all these puppies for a discount.

I mentioned in my post yesterday that my friend printed out the lyrics to the song that was playing for her when my baby was born, and this is it. She also got him a copy of Rothfuss’s books, so I’m going to keep them safe for him until he’s old enough to read them.

And that’s it! I believe I have two more friends to exchange gifts with, and I might end up getting books from them, so those will be in my January haul.

PS I’m not counting these (except the two I bought myself before Christmas) as part of my end-of-year physical TBR count, because getting a bunch of books as gifts throws off my goal dammit. I’ll tack them on so they’re included in the start of my January count though, don’t worry.

Christmas Eve Book Tag! | Blogmas Day 24

Merry Christmas Eve! It’s here it’s here! 😀 Santa comes tonight!

1) Christmas Eve morning: what is a book you wake up excited to read? one you anticipate reading or one you read in the past that you want to get back into?

Klaus is my festive read for this year. It’s the first time in a while where my Christmas book hasn’t been a reread. I’m pretty pumped!

2) Christmas Eve breakfast: what are your favorite treats during the holiday season?

I’ve been eating so much damn chocolate this month. So much.

3) Family Time: What is a book that fills you with happiness and love? the warm fuzzies in general?

Oddball came out at the beginning of the month and it’s so nice and fuzzy (literally, the cover is fuzzy).

4) Christmas Carols: What are your favorite Christmas Carols or holiday songs?

Carol of the Bells 4eva.

5) Anticipation: What is a book release you are very much anticipating?

Honestly I haven’t been paying too much attention to release announcements, so I don’t have a list yet. One I do know though is Locklands, which is the third book in Bennett’s Founders Trilogy. It comes out I believe in June.

6) You hear sleigh bells on the roof and are so excited you can’t sleep!: What is a book that kept you up all night?

Most recently it was this book! It was just so readable!

7) It’s Christmas morning, and Santa has come!: What is a book on your wishlist that you hope to unwrap?

I made an entire post about this earlier this week! Books I hope Santa brings! Go check it out!

~~~
And that’s it peeps. See yinz on the 26th.
Books I hope Santa brings | Blogmas Day 21
Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by ThatArtsyReaderGirl
Four more days til Christmas! And it’s Top Ten Tuesday! Like all of us, I asked for books this year. These are the ones I hope Santa brings me!
Some classic backlists to start. Inda in particular I’ve been after for years.
Some sequels to series I’ve started and really enjoyed. (And the Inuyasha I’ve finished! Just collecting now).
And some more recent releases because they sound super great. 😀
And that’s it! I’ve been (mostly) good this year so wish me luck peeps!
12 Days of Christmas Book Tag! | Blogmas Day 20
Happy Sunday, a tag today! Wasn’t tagged as per usual but it’s Christmasy themed, so we’re going with it, peeps. I did this tag last year and the year before as well so I’m going to attempt to come up with different answers.
On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: A partridge in a pear tree!
The partridge stood alone in the pear tree. What is your favorite stand alone?
Definitely one of the best standalones I’ve read this year. It really felt like a melancholy Ghibli story.
On the second day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: Two turtle doves!
Love is in the air! Who is your one true pairing?
Again, same as last year and the year before, I don’t really have one.
On the third day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: Three French hens!
In the spirit of threes, what is the best trilogy you have read?
This is one of the best trilogies I’ve read this year, if not ever. I’m very late to this band wagon I know but man these books were definitely worth the hype.
On the fourth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: Four calling birds!
Since series usually consist of four or more books, what is your favorite series?
This was a really good one I read this year. It has 18 volumes total, and technically it was a reread since I did read it once about fifteen years ago. It had been so long though that I forgot about a lot of it and it was like reading it for the first time.
On the fifth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: Five golden rings!
One ring to rule them all! Who is your Favorite Villain/Antagonist?
Definitely Cresades from Bennett’s Founders trilogy. It’s been a while since I was actually unsettled by a villain in a book but man, he’s unsettling.
On the sixth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: Six geese a laying!
Creation is a beautiful thing. What is your favorite world/world-building?
The world in Robin Hobb’s Soldier Son trilogy is really interesting. There’s the regular world and then this whole other spiritual world within the trees. It’s really neat.
On the seventh day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: Seven swans a swimming!
Who needs seven swans when all it takes is one good animal sidekick? Who’s your favorite animal sidekick?
Obviously Roach the horse from the Witcher series.
One the eighth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: Eight maid a milking!
Milk is so 18th century. Which book or series takes beverages/food to a whole new level?
Second breakfast.
On the ninth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: Nine ladies dancing!
Dancing is just one skill of a Lady! Who is your favorite kickass female lead?
I feel like I keep bringing up Baru a lot. I keep rereading the series though so makes sense.
On the tenth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: Ten lords a leaping!
How about your favorite leading lad?
Logan from this trilogy is pretty wonderful. He’s a huge, rough battle-worn guy but I suspect he’s a teddy bear.
On the eleventh day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: Eleven pipers piping!
What is your favorite book or bookish thing with musical influence? (It can be about music, reference music a lot etc.)
I don’t have a good answer for this one this year 😦 I didn’t read anything music related.
On the twelfth day of Christmas, my true love gave ot me: Twelve drummers drumming!
Drum roll please…what is your favorite read of this year?
I’m not telling yet! That is another post.
And that’s it – if you’d like to do this, do it yo. See ya tomorrow.
Books I wanted to read but didn’t get to in 2021 | Blogmas Day 17
I keep telling myself every time I make one of these posts that it’ll be the last time I need to because next year I’ll actually read all the books I want to read. I’ve been doing this for seven years now and it still hasn’t happened. Sigh. Here are the books I wanted to read but didn’t.
A Beautifully Foolish Endeavor I ended up picking up right after it released because I loved the first book so much and then I proceeded to not read it. Sigh. A Wrinkle in Time I’ve had for forever and I feel like it’s one of those books that everyone has read. So I’m a bit bummed that I didn’t. And me not reading Caliban’s War is probably the biggest disappointment, because I’ve been about two-thirds through this book for over a year now. I keep meaning to finish it and then I don’t. Sigh. I do love it though – honestly it’ll probably get a four or five stars from me. I just need to actually read the damn thing.
Brent Weeks’ Lightbringer series is one of my favorite series and I haven’t finished it because I’m lame. Same with Seth Dickinson’s Masquerade series. I did start a reread of it this year in prep for this third book, but I haven’t reread the second book yet so I don’t wanna start this one until I can do that. And the fact that I haven’t read Naomi Novik’s Scholomance series yet is such a fail on my part considering she’s one of my favorite authors. Sigh.
One of these days I’ll read all these books.
If you’ve read any of the above, lemme know! Til tomorrow!
Best books to read by the fireplace | Blogmas Day 16
I’m back on track for Blogmas! I’m going to really try to not fall behind again, so wish me luck.
Today’s post are book recommendations to read by the fireplace. In my opinion, the books for those are huge, chunky fantasy novels. So if that’s not your jam you prolly won’t like these too much. I’m going to try to name books I don’t mention all that often. aka not gonna talk about Robin Hobb (though her books totally fit the theme).
Perdido Street Station is a book with a rich atmosphere. It’s set in a city sitting in the shadow of some long-dead leviathan’s rib cage, and has a lot of interesting creatures and politics and places. There are characters with bugs for heads and mad scientists and creatures that the ambassador to hell doesn’t even wanna mess with. It’s a really good book.
Daughter of the Forest is another one with a rich tone. I was fully invested in this one. It reads like a melancholy fairly tale and has a lilting, floating plot. It’s the first in a series and I haven’t read the others yet but I definitely plan to. It follows a girl whose brothers are turned into swans.
Tone seems to be a theme with this list. Hyperion is a well known science fiction and if you liked the Canterbury Tales, this is probably for you. It follows a group of people on a journey, and each one tells their story on the way there. It has this melancholy, deep tone and involves time and creatures and all sorts of things and it’s wonderful.
This one is definitely a different flavor of fantasy than the rest. Mogworld is a comedy, and follows a magic student who gets killed by a rival school, and then is revived years later as a zombie by a necromancer and is really grumpy about it.
I don’t wanna tell you anymore because honestly there’s more to the plot than what you see at first glance. I really enjoyed this book. It’s very tongue in cheek.
And that’s it! If you have read any of these or end up picking them up, do let me know! Happy reading!
All I Want For Christmas Book Tag | Blogmas Day 15
I flubbed again! Keeping up a daily posting schedule after not posting for like a year is difficult. But I’m gonna put out two today and get back on track again. So first, a tag: I found this on Livthebooknerd‘s blog.
1) What fictional character do you want Santa to leave under your Christmas tree?
Literally any talking animal
2) What character do you want to kiss under the mistletoe?
Nobody! Pbtbt.
3) You write your Christmas list for Santa, what are the top 5 books on it?
I’m actually gonna wait to answer this question – I have a whole post coming out later about books I want Santa to bring!
4) You get to the spend the day with the characters and movie adaptation actors from one fandom, what do you pick?
Oh this one is tough. I feel like there are a lot that I would like but would probably kill me. Uh…
Inuyasha, for nostalgia’s sake.
5) What fictional animal would you like to replace Rudolph and be able to meet on your roof?
Temeraire from Naomi Novik’s Temeraire series! Who wouldn’t wait a dragon that acts like a British cat?
6) You invite 10 fictional characters to your new years eve party, who do you pick?
Probably the cast from Ouran High School Host Club because it would just be wild.
7) What character would make a good Santa (Doesn’t have to be appearance, personality counts too)?
Tohru from Fruits Basket. Looks nothing like Santa obviously, but I could see her really getting into it.
And that’s it! If you wanna do this tag, consider yourself tagged.
Top Ten Tuesday: End of Year TBR | Blogmas Day 14
Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by ThatArtsyReaderGirl!
Happy Tuesday! Today’s post is about all the books I’d like to get to before the end of 2021. I have seven books to go on my Goodreads goal, so I’m hoping to finish at least that, but any additional ones would be great too.
So here’s my list of potentials:
My three current buddy reads, which have all picked back up, albeit slowly on my end, now that I’ve birthed and gotten my life somewhat organized again. I don’t know if any of these will be finished by the end of the year, but I’m definitely going to be reading them at least.
Nightbitch is my current solo read, though I admit it’s taken a back seat to my buddy reads. I don’t read my solo books unless I’m caught up on my buddy books and I’m fearfully behind at the moment so… I’m hoping to get to this one in between of the above ones.
And these are all the manga I want to hop into in between the books. I could read multiple volumes of them so that would put me up past the seven I need, hopefully.
And that is it. Buddy reads and manga for me from now til the end of the year! See ya tomorrow!
