Sunshine Blogger Award!

Hello, a neat thing today! I was nominated for the Sunshine Blogger award by Alex @MyBookWorld24, so thanks pal!

  • Rules
    • Thank the person who nominated you and provide a link back to their blog so others can find them.
    • Answer the 11 questions asked by the blogger who nominated you.
    • Nominate 11 other bloggers and ask them 11 new questions.
    • Notify the nominees about it by commenting on one of their blog posts/pinging them
    • List the rules and display a Sunshine Blogger Award logo on your post and/or your blog site.

Alex’s questions:

  1. Favourite book?

This is a difficult question. According to my favorites shelf, I have 42 favorite books, so I’m going to go with my most recently added favorite, which is Our Dining Table by Ori Mita!

Our Dining Table

  • If you could live anywhere, where would it be?

Honestly somewhere with more snow. When I was a kid, it would start snowing in October and keep snowing until April and I loved it. Now, we’re lucky if we get blusters before Christmas, and it’s usually about done by March. Keep in mind it never stays cold enough to keep snow on the ground anymore. It all melts every few days. 😦 So yeah, somewhere colder… but a place that’d still give me a short spurt of summer. A short one.

  • Favourite blog design?

The one I have! It’s called ‘Choco’ and I think it’s not supported anymore by the creator, which is a bummer.

  • What’s your best life advice?

“Never give up on a dream just because of the time it’ll take to achieve it. The time will pass anyway.”

  • A quote to stand by?

Uh.. see above? :”D

  • Your dream job?

Computational neuroscientist!

  • What’s one thing you think the world needs to work on?

Being effing nice to each other.

  • If you could live on one food, what would it be?

Tacos.

  • One post that you enjoyed doing?

I really love doing Blogmas, I can’t pick one kind of post in particular. But all the end of year ones and holiday ones and just the atmosphere of everyone doing all this together for a month or so… it’s so great, I look forward to it every year!

  • What’s the first thing that comes to your mind right now?

…tacos

  • A blog you just started following?

Lauren @Narrative Paradise! And it’s funny because… I thought I’d followed her a long time ago, because I know I’ve been on her page a few times now and have interacted a handful of times too through tags and whatnot. But I was on there today leaving a comment and the little ‘follow?’ button popped up and I went ‘wat, I already did’. But apparently my dumb ass never actually hit the follow button way back when. I am sorry friend, I have fixed that now. :”D Forgive?

PS everyone go check her out, she’s neato!

I nominate:

NarrativeParadise | BookBinderWay | WindsorWrites | TheMadiWay

My questions:

  • What’s your favorite place you’ve ever been?
  • What object that you own is the most precious to you?
  • If you were to combine two books to make a better book, which would they be?
  • If you could add some plot device or character twist to a favorite book, what book and what would you add?
  • Did you participate in the Book-It program as a kid? Did they have it where you grew up?
  • Do you decorate your bookshelves at all?
  • Would you rather have a goat scream in your ear every time you sat down to eat dinner, or have to eat dinner standing up for the rest of your life?
  • What’s the most disappointing book you’ve ever read? Not bad per say, but a let-down
  •  What is your favorite video game, if any?
  • Coffee or tea or something else?
  • Are you a morning person or a night person?

That’s it! Now run away!

Entertainer Blogger Award

Blogger Award

Hello! A tag today 😀 I was tagged by Zezee, so thanks friend!

Rules:

  • Thank the person who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  • Add these rules to your post.
  • Answer all the questions below.
  • Display the award picture in your post.
  • Nominate 12 other bloggers who are funny, inspiring and most important of all entertaining!

Why did you start a blog in the first place?

Honestly it was meant as a stepping stone for me. I had originally wanted to do a youtube channel and told myself ‘If you can maintain a blog for a year, then you could maintain a youtube as well’. But after a year, I didn’t care to start a youtube. I liked blogging too much – the low-stress, the friends, the lack of editting videos. Blogging is definitely for me. I’ve had this thing for three years now and haven’t even considered a youtube since.

What is your favorite book?

You’re kidding me, right?

faves

What do you dislike the most?

Body odor
Luke-warm coffee
My bloody 5am work alarm
Cat litter that was stuck to my cat’s feet and now it’s just on the floor
The GOP
Mold growing on my cheese before I can eat the cheese

What is your favorite food item from the mall?

Charley’s Chicken California

Image result for charley's chicken california

What is your favorite pastime?

Other than reading, I really like doing nail art. I haven’t done much lately though – maybe twice in four months. -_- I blame the 40-hour-a-week-slosh. Maybe that’ll change after next week when we move and I’m not commuting 3 hours round-trip per day. ELEVEN AND A HALF HOUR DAYS EVERY DAY ARE TIRING.

And that’s it! I’m not going to nominate anyone…. mostly because it’s 7am on a Saturday, my cold-addled brain wouldn’t let me sleep and I wouldn’t have the brain power to come up with a comprehensive list of names anyways.

Also, I’m allowed to be lazy on a Saturday. Pbtbt

Happy reading!

Sunshine Blogger Award

Blogger Award

Hello! A tag today! I was tagged by Chelsea @Spotlight on Stories, so thanks friend!

The Rules
  1. Thank the person who nominated you and link back to their blog.
  2. Answer the 11 questions your nominator has given you.
  3. Nominate 11 other people and give them 11 new questions to answer.
  4. List the rules and display the award.

Chelsea’s Questions:

Which movie would you love to see on the big screen (something that you’d either love to see in the movie theatre again, or an older movie before your time that you never had the chance to see in the theatre and would love to)?

I think seeing Jurassic Park, the original one, in theaters would be great. It came out in 1993, so I was 3 years old, way too young to go see the movie (at least…. I hope I didn’t go see it. Otherwise, for shame on my parents for taking a toddler into a theater). I think it’s a movie that’s stood the test of time really well and can still wow people who are just seeing it for the first time.

Which book would you love to read for the first time again?

I feel like everyone’s answer to this is always Harry Potter, and while I’m no different, I’m going to shoot for a bit of variety.

Fullmetal Alchemist for sure. That series has some of the best world building, the best characterization and the best plot that I’ve ever read. It. Is. Fantastic. And I’d love to experience it for the first time again.

Do you have a favorite publisher or publisher imprint?

Nope. I don’t pay that much attention, honestly.

If you worked in a bookstore, what would your one staff pick recommendation be, and why?

The Traitor Baru Cormorant by Seth Dickinson, because it’s one of those books where you read it, decide that one thing is happening and then you’re completely floored when something else happens. And you don’t even realize that you’ve decided this thing until you see that you were very, very wrong.

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever used as a bookmark?

A sock

Is there a classic that has been on your TBR for ages?

Pretty much all of them. I keep telling myself to read classics but I never actually like them when I do, save for a few rare times. -_-

What’s your favourite bird?

The ones with wings.

What colour do you wear the most?

Probably blue, because I wear jeans to work every day.

What are your thoughts on binge-watching? Is it something you do, and if so, which show did you last binge-watch?

It definitely has its time and place. Currently binging Inuyasha again in prep for watching Inuyasha: The Final Act, which I’ve never seen before.

What’s your favourite episode of your favourite TV show and why?

One of my favorite TV shows is Supernatural. Currently, my favorite episode is “Changing Channels”, season 5 episode 8. I don’t even wanna give any hint of plot, because it’ll ruin everything.

Do you have a favourite bookstore/used bookstore?

Half Price Books is my bro.

I’m not gonna nominate anyone this time around. I vaguely remember doing this tag before and while I’m totally okay doing it again (different questions :”D) that doesn’t mean everyone I’d tag would be okay with me tagging them multiple times for the same tag, hawhaw.

Happy reading!

Book Fangirling Blog Award!

book fangirling award.png

Hello! It’s Sunday the 6th and I’m on spring break! I’ve slowly been accumulating tags and posts that I’ve been meaning to do and now is my chance to bang them all out on my keyboard! So if you’ve tagged me in anything recently, please remind me! My memory is horrid. I might just make a new page on my blog called ‘Stuff Emily was tagged in but hasn’t posted yet because she’s a ding dong’ to help me keep track of everything.

Anyways, I was nominated for the Book Fangirling Award by Orang-utan Librarian. Thank you! :”D Reading through this one, it looks like tons of fun. (And I know you’ve since tagged me in one other thing. Just one, right? I’m not forgetting anything?! @@) So anyways, onto the award!

The Rules

  • Create a post to accept your award
  • Add the blog award button into your post (just save the picture to your computer and upload it) and put it on the side of your blog as a widget
  • Link to the creator in the post so they know who has given you the award
  • Answer the questions I have set below
  • Nominate between 5-10 book bloggers who you think deserve this award
  • Come up with your own 5 questions for your nominees
  • Link them to this post so that they know the rules

Orang-utan Librarian’s questions to me

What’s your favourite fandom?

Definitely the Inuyasha fandom. I haven’t really participated too much in it since I was a teenager, but that’s where I met a lot of my now closest friends online. Inuyasha at this point makes me feel really nostalgic. It was my favorite show/manga when I was in my mid to late teens and therefore I consider it part of my ‘becoming an individual’ years, I guess. Whenever I see it on TV, I watch it and sit there and remember all the people around me and everything that happened when I was younger. I’m feeling nostalgic just thinking of it now, actually. xD I still collect the manga. I think the series has completed, but I only have up through the early 20s in volumes. Long way to go, haha.

What book/series/character etc do you fangirl over the most?

My first ‘fangirling’ occurred when I was sixteen and was watching, you guessed it, Inuyasha. In the series, the main character has a brother named Sesshoumaru, who I became a tad obsessed with. I read fanfiction about the guy, I went out and bought the little plush version of him, yada yada. I liked him so much because he was such a strong and calm cool collected character that you’d think he was an ice block, but at the same time, he obviously had a softer maybe even humorous side that you didn’t get the see in the series but was alluded to heavily, if that makes sense. It made for a lot of really good fanfiction, let me tell ya.

What book series has a massive fanbase, but you couldn’t get on board with it?

That would be the Twilight series. I’m actually one of ‘those people’. The ones that read the series, decided it wasn’t awful, but then came to hate it when it took off and became really popular. Why? The fans. (If you’re a fan, don’t take this personally). A few of my friends became die hard fans and just the amount they talked about it and tried to force shippings down my throat and got angry at me, angry, when I didn’t agree or didn’t feel as strongly got really annoying really quickly. So I dissociated myself from the series. Decided to just call myself someone who disliked it instead of ‘small fan’ just so I didn’t get people saying ‘well you should like it MORE‘. Saying I disliked it was a good deterrent, haha. Like I said, nothing against the series or the people who like it in a normal, healthy manner. Just those around me went a tad crazy and it made me associate it with arguments, so. There you go. xD

Do you have any fandom merch? Please share photos!

I do! I have two anime plushies (Sesshomaru from Inuyasha and Kenshin from Rurouni Kenshin), and various anime keychains, T-shirts and action figures, but they’re all at my parents’ place in storage, so I can’t take a picture. 😦 I also have a wallet with Jake’s face on it from Adventure Time and the pocket watch from Fullmetal Alchemist! And I actually have a picture of that one! I’m sure I have a few other things here and there, but like I said, a lot of it is in storage. I’m moving in a couple weeks though, so I’ll have to go home and go through it all – maybe I’ll make a dedicated post to merch. xD

The pocket watch (It even says ‘Don’t forget on the inside! I about died when I saw it):

What’s the best name for any fandom you’ve ever heard? (Whether or not you’re a part of it)

That would be the Cumberbitches, fans of Benedict Cumberbatch, who if you don’t know plays Sherlock in BBC’s Sherlock. And a name even better I think, is the one he came up with himself. When he heard his fans were calling themselves Cumberbitches, he was all ‘You shouldn’t call yourself a bad name. You can all be the Cumbercookies! That way when you come together, you’re a Cumberbatch!’. GET IT?! GET IT?! I like that guy, he’s good.

My nominations

Ace @allboutthembooksandstuff
Panda @pandasbooks
Analee @booksnacksblog
Shivii @browneyedmusings
Amanda @ladycorvinous
Nora @readingexperienceswithnora

My questions for you

  1. How many fandoms would you call yourself an ‘active participant’ in and what are they?
  2. Do you read fanfiction in your fandoms? If so, share your favorite one!
  3. (Stealing Orang-utan Librarian’s question) Do you have any merch? If so, take a picture!
  4. Is there a character/series/show that you would like to become a fan of but don’t know where to start?
  5. Have you made any friends purely from being a member of a fandom? Are you still friend with these people? If they’re internet friends, have you met up with any in real life? Do you plan to?

And that’s it! This award made me feel really nostalgic, man. I need to go rewatch Inuyasha now, thank you. And when I was writing this, I was tagged in one of those ‘you never forget the kids you grew up with’ posts on facebook. What are the odds. xD They’re all the ones I watched Inuyasha with, haha.

Happy reading!

January Wrap-Up and February Currently Reading

JanWUFebCR

January was a very good reading month for me. I set my Goodreads goal for this year to 50 books, and this month, I’ve already read 11 of them. Woot. This was also a rather busy blogging month for me. I’m rather happy with the content I’ve managed to put out since the first of the month.

Overview of Blog Activity for the Month:

I also participated in two readathons this month, resulting in six additional posts:

Notice I didn’t do nearly as well in the RYBSAT this year. 😛 There’s a reason, I promise. A dumb reason, but a reason.

Total posts for the month (including this post): 17

Reading Overview for January:

As said before, I completed 11 books. One graphic novel, six manga, one audiobook and three novels. They are as follows:

Locke & Key, Vol. 1 by Joe HillAddicted to You by Krista RitchieThe Assassin's Blade by Sarah J. MaasIs Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy KalingMadness, Volume 01 by Kairi ShimotsukiMadness, Volume 02 by Kairi ShimotsukiHeir of Fire by Sarah J. MaasSaiyuki Reload, Volume 8 by Kazuya MinekuraSaiyuki Reload, Volume 9 by Kazuya MinekuraWish, Vol. 01 by CLAMPWish, Vol. 02 by CLAMP

Locke & Key volume 1 by Joe Hill – 4 stars
I really liked this one. It was an interesting opening to a series I’m hoping to acquire the rest of very soon.

Addicted to You by Krista Ritchie – 2 stars
Didn’t care for this one at all. My review listed above explains my feelings more fully. But beh. I definitely missed what everyone was raving about for this one.

The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J Maas – 4.5 stars
Really enjoyed this. This is the first book in the series where I didn’t find Celaena grating on my nerves (the whole time). I got to see why exactly she’s so cocky. Made me understand her a bit better and able to sympathize with her more than I had been.

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? And Other Concerns by Mindy Kaling – 3 stars
This is the audiobook of the month, narrated by the author herself. This book I found alright. It was a pleasant, light read. But unfortunately it wasn’t much else.

Madness volumes 1 and 2 by Kairi Shimotsuki – 3 stars each
The premise of this book was really cool. Takes place in the future where humanity has kinda collapsed, leading to the rise of a wave of killers and assassins that have taken advantage of the chaos. They call themselves Madness. Like I said, cool premise. The characters were neat too, especially the different Madness members. The main arc of the story follows the leader of Madness who has been imprisoned and the young priest who watches over him in his cell. There’s a a bit of a love story here too, but it was portrayed in a very uh, interesting way. Not bad necessarily, but interesting. I’ll leave it there. If you’re interested in this series, just keep in mind it’s rated M, so expect content to warrant that rating. Overall, enjoyed this series. It was pretty decent.

Heir of Fire by Sarah J Maas – 4.5 stars
This book made me a fan of the series. Before, I liked it. Definitely liked it, but this book made me want to say I’m a fan. There’s a difference. You get the difference, right? Please don’t tell me I’m just being goofy. Anyways, wrote a review on this one too, explaining thoughts more fully. But overall, really, really enjoyed it.

Saiyuki Reload volume 8 and 9 by Kazuya Minekura – 3.5 stars, 4 stars
This is a really, really good series, guys. Saiyuki Reload follows the original series, Saiyuki, picking up where that one left off and continuing to develop the characters beautifully. These latest two volumes were really good as well. I only have volume 10 of reload left, and I’ve finished the thing. BUT GUESS WHAT. The publishing company for this series folded right after volume 9 was published in English, so volume 10 was never translated. And since it was the last volume of the series, no other company wanted to pick it up for just one installment. I WILL NEVER READ IT. D: I’ve looked everywhere, online and otherwise, for a translation, a fan translation, anything. I even looked for German translations since I can kinda sorta speak and still, nada. IF YOU EVER SEE VOLUME 10 IN ENGLISH OR GERMAN ANYWHERE, TELL ME. SEND LINK, BUY IT AND MAIL IT TO ME. I’LL REIMBURSE YOU. AUAAAAUGUGUGAHAHGHHHH.

Wish volumes 1 and 2 by Clamp – 3 stars, 2.5 stars
I mentioned my feelings on this series earlier in my Top 5 Disappointing Eye Candies post, but I’ll do so again: I like this series, to a point. I kinda detached from it after a while though. Nothing stuck, nothing made me care. I likely won’t be finishing it. (But you never know, I could end up eating my words). Also, remember that ‘there’s a reason I did bad during the RYBSAT readathon’ thing? Well, this is it. This series I couldn’t finish, and it killed my motivation to move forward. :/ Like I said, a dumb reason, but a reason.

Favorite book of the month: Heir of Fire by Sarah J Maas
Least favorite book of the month: Addicted to You by Krista Ritchie

Progress on 2016 Reading Goals:

  • Read 11/50 books

Siblinghood (Sisterhood) of the World and Encouraging Thunder Blog Awards

sisterhood of the world awardencouraging-thunder

Hello!

I’ve been nominated for these lovely awards by Orang-utan Librarian! and Zezee with Books! So thank you! I’ve actually done one of these awards last year as well, but I figured since it was a different person nominating and asking different questions, that I would make a second post. 😀

Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award

Rules:

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you, linking back to their blog
  • Put the award logo on your blog
  • Answer the 10 questions sent to you
  • Make up 10 new questions for your nominees to answer
  • Nominate 10 blogs

Orang-utan Librarian’s Questions for me:

  1. Jump around like a jackrabbit cos I just nominated you- how does that feel? Was anyone watching?

    Lovely and no. 😀
  2. School, uni or work?

    The latter two. Both. Icky.

  3. What’s your favourite TV show at the moment?

At the moment, X-Files, but it flops around all over the place.

  4. Do you like to travel? If so, what’s your favourite place you’ve been to?

Yes. Paris! I’ve been there twice, would love to go back.

  5. What book reminds you most of sisterhood?

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants? :”D

  6. Share a blogger (who you’re not nominating) but want to give a shout out to!

Returntofitra! She hasn’t posted in a while, but she’s been one of my best friends since I was 15 years old. So a decade now.

  7. What’s your favourite post you’ve ever written- share the link if you can!

At the moment, the New Year’s Resolutions Book Tag that Shivii and I made. I dig it.

  8. Did you have a favourite toy growing up? What was it called?

My pink teddy bear. His name was Teddy. xD

  9. What villain (from any book, movie or show) would you actually quite like to hang out with?

Probably Nimona from Nimona. I feel like she’s one of the few that wouldn’t actively try to kill me.

  10. What’s your favourite fairytale?

I’m not sure, honestly. I haven’t read too many. Maybe Beauty and the Beast? The Disney version not the Grimm version. shudder.

Since I’ve done this one before, I’m not going to nominate anyone. But thank you again for nominating me!

Encouraging Thunder Award

The rules:

  1. Thank your nominator.
  2. Tell the world why you blog.
  3. Nominate 5 more people.

I blog because it gives me a creative outlet. I keep telling myself to write a book, but honestly that’s not going to happen, at least not until I’m retired and old and moldy. So this allows me a bit of creativity without forcing me to pound out several thousand words of it on a deadline.

I nominate:

Ace!

And that’s it! 😀

One Lovely Blog Award

one-lovely-blog-award

Hello. 😀 I was nominated by Ace to do this, so thank you ladyface. Also, if anyone has tagged me in anything within the past month and I haven’t done the post for it, please kindly remind me. I really need to start keeping track of this stuff. If I haven’t done something you’ve tagged me in, it’s because I forgot I was tagged and can’t find a log of it all, so. @@ Apologies.

Anyways, onto this awardy.

Rules:

  • You must thank person who nominated you and include a link to their blog
  • You must list the rules and display the award
  • You must add 7 facts about yourself
  • You must nominate 15 other bloggers

7 Facts About Me:

  1. I feel like my taste buds are committing a mutiny against me. Within the last five years, they decided a lot of foods that I previously hated with a passion are suddenly delicious. I’m not complaining I suppose (I mean, tasty food is always good) but I’m so confused why it’s so many foods so damn quickly. They include: Coffee, guacamole, hummus, coconut, macaroni salad, mustard, bacon, ketchup, beer, liquor, relish… the list goes on.
  2. I don’t take selfies. Ever. If you ever see me in a selfie, it was taken by someone else in the shot and it was 100% their idea. I’m not against them or anything, I just feel like there are far more interesting things to show people pictures of than my face. Like books for example. Or cats.
  3. My SO and I are planning on moving to a new apartment this coming February or March. Hopefully this move will allow me to put all my books in one place for once, along the same wall or same corner. I mean really. About 1/3 of them are in my living room, 1/3 in my bedroom and 1/3 still at my parents’ house in storage. I MISS MY BOOKIES.
  4. I think the worst chore in the world is putting laundry away. I don’t know why I hate it so much, just that I do. I’ll do the dishes, take out the trash, even clean the toilet before I agree to fold laundry. I don’t mind doing laundry, but the after-folding is the worst. So unless my SO does it, it sits on the bed, then the chair, then the bed, then the chair.
  5. I have this awful habit of buying a lot of books, seeing one I don’t own yet but want to read, thinking ‘Oh I just bought some, so I should get this one from the library’, reading that book and some other library books, thinking ‘I’ve read a lot lately, gonna buy books’, buying books, seeing one I don’t own yet but want to read, thinking ‘Oh I just bought some, so I should get this one from the library’, yada yada yada.
  6. The whole reason I have a degree in psychology (studying comp sci now though) is because when I was sixteen, I ran across this butthead online who claimed to have schizophrenia but acted out having multiple personalities. I did some research on it, found out the two are completely different disorders, but by that point, I had cut ties with said butthead so I never got to call him out on it. He was so full of it, lemme tell you. Anyways, doing the research got me interested in psychology as a whole, which led to me majoring in it when I got to college. So thank you, butthead.
  7. There has never been a carton of milk that my SO and I bought that we finished before the expiration date. We try, but we never get there. I buy the smallest ones I can, too. They’re quart sized! Still can’t finish them. The day we do, the earth will split open and the apocalypse will start.

And that’s it! I’ve seen this award floating around a lot of the people I normally tag, so I’m not going to tag anyone. Though if you would like to do this, consider yourself tagged by me. 😀
