Why did you start a blog in the first place?
Honestly it was meant as a stepping stone for me. I had originally wanted to do a youtube channel and told myself ‘If you can maintain a blog for a year, then you could maintain a youtube as well’. But after a year, I didn’t care to start a youtube. I liked blogging too much – the low-stress, the friends, the lack of editting videos. Blogging is definitely for me. I’ve had this thing for three years now and haven’t even considered a youtube since.
What is your favorite book?
You’re kidding me, right?
What do you dislike the most?
Body odor
Luke-warm coffee
My bloody 5am work alarm
Cat litter that was stuck to my cat’s feet and now it’s just on the floor
The GOP
Mold growing on my cheese before I can eat the cheese
What is your favorite food item from the mall?
Charley’s Chicken California
What is your favorite pastime?
Other than reading, I really like doing nail art. I haven’t done much lately though – maybe twice in four months. -_- I blame the 40-hour-a-week-slosh. Maybe that’ll change after next week when we move and I’m not commuting 3 hours round-trip per day. ELEVEN AND A HALF HOUR DAYS EVERY DAY ARE TIRING.
And that’s it! I’m not going to nominate anyone…. mostly because it’s 7am on a Saturday, my cold-addled brain wouldn’t let me sleep and I wouldn’t have the brain power to come up with a comprehensive list of names anyways.
Each nominee must thank the person who nominated them and link their blog in the post.
They must include the rules and add the blog award badge as an image.
Must add 7 facts about themselves and then nominate 15 people.
I think I’m going to take a leaf out of Orangutan’s book and do a music-oriented 7 facts. SO PREPARE FOR A BUNCH OF METAL.
Also, if you’ve ever been curious about metal or never understood what people saw in it, I suggest giving these a listen. Everything I list will be good ‘gateway’ songs, I think. I’ll list other genres or associated things that if you like those ones, you might like the song I’ve posted, too.
(I’m forever trying to get people into metal. It’s so fun :”D)
1 – I grew up listening to Iron Maiden and Guns N Roses
At the time, I didn’t know it was considered metal or what metal even was. I just knew it was the music my dad and uncle listened to. So picture ten year old me singing ‘Hallowed by Thy Name’ with my uncle and cousins, haha.
Example: Hallowed By Thy Name by Iron Maiden
You should listen to this song if you like classic hard rock music
When the priest comes to read me the last rites I take a look through the bars at the last sights Of a world that has gone very wrong for me
2 – The first metal band that I discovered by my own accord was Nightwish
There are a lot of Nightwish songs and the band has had three singers at this point (the current one is amazing, imho). I first discovered them because they were in a music video at the end of a movie I was watching. I remember liking them and then forgetting they existed until I randomly came across them again on youtube a year or two later. Been listening ever since. They range from very flowery symphonic metal to heavier stuff. The song I’m listing is somewhere in the middle and almost has a pop-rock-like sound to it.
Example: Amaranth by Nightwish
You should listen to this if you like pop rock, high female voices, angels
Reaching, searching For something untouched Hearing voices of the never-fading calling
3 – The band I feel puts on the best live show is Sonata Arctica
I feel like there are certain bands that even if you don’t care for their music, you go to see them perform because they’re just so much fun. This is one of those bands. And by far, the most fun song to listen to by them is FullMoon. There’s just so much audience participation!
Example: FullMoon by Sonata Arctica
You should listen to this if you like rock music, werewolves, happy crowds at concerts
She should not lock the open door (run away, run away, run way) Fullmoon is on the sky and he’s not a man anymore See the change in him but can’t (run away, run away, run away) See what became out of her man…
Fullmoon
4 – Every time I hear a band collaborate with a movie or video game, it makes me want to watch or play it
I feel like this doesn’t happen nearly enough!! If you know of any games/movies with metal soundtracks, do tell me
Example: Children of the Smith by Blind Guardian (Dwarves soundtrack)
You should listen to this if you like video game sound tracks and music videos
The old rhymes, they’re on my mind We’re one tribe We share our memories, clear and bright We walk as one, our lives are bound together We share a fate, we share one fate We share a fate
5 – I don’t like music with a lot of growling or screaming, so pretty much every band I listen to has clean, well-sung lyrics in their songs
I feel like there’s this misconception outside the metal community that all metal is nothing but growling, walls of sounds and demonic screaming. I mean, sure there is some of that: It’s called black metal, thrash music, death metal, etc etc. There are a bunch of subgenres though that don’t have these features. So getting into the metal genre, you can purposely avoid listening to those or purposely go after those to listen to, depending on your tastes!
Example: Memories by Within Temptation
You should listen to this song if you like singer-songwriter songs, melodic female voices, easy-listening music
All of my memories keep you near. In silent moments imagine you here.
6 – My favorite kind of metal is the kind with a full-orchestra backing it.
I absolutely love being surrounded by a wall of music while I’m listening. My favorite way to do that is get the metal-sound of the guitars and bass… and then a whole bunch of orchestral music to boot!
Example: Ghost Love Score by Nightwish
You should listen to this if you like orchestra music, classical music, opera, complex sound combinations, chorus music
A siren from the deep came to me Sang my name my longing Still I write my songs about that dream of mine Worth everything I may ever be
7 – I’ve been listening to metal all my life and I feel like it’ll stay that way. My future children will likely grow up as little metalheads, and I’m looking forward to it. :”D
There are certain songs that when I listen to them, I know they’re ones I want to keep with me and teach my kids the lyrics so they can sing them with me flying down the highway like my dad did with me. This is one of those songs.
Example: The Scarecrow by Avantasia
You should listen to this if you like classic rock music, powerful lyrics, AC-DC, inspirational music
So you’re an angel meant to walk down here And you believe it’s all divine And you don’t play by all those temporal rules You watch the world begin to die
And that’s it! I hope you decided to listen to one or two (or all…) of the songs above. If you decide you like metal and want to hear more, ask me for recs! If you already like metal, let me know some of your favorites! I’m always lookin’ for new music.
Hello! An awardy today. :”D I was tagged by A Universe for Books, so thank you much! Sorry it took me so long to get to posting it!

Questions for me:
Imagine that you are the protagonist and your life is a book. Which book that you’ve read would be written about you?
This is such a cool question. :”D Unfortunately though I can’t think of one. My life is pretty boring, haha. What I would like though would be something like Harry Potter, but who wouldn’t? 😛
Imagine your favourite book is being turned into a book to movie adaptation. See if you can create a soundtrack to this book. Which book would it be?
This is such a cool question too! :”D One of my favorite books currently isUprooted by Naomi Novik. I just looked at my favorites list and it’s one of few that doesn’t actually already have a tv show or movie, so this is the one. 😛
Here is the synopsis from Amazon before I go into the setlist I’ve created:
Agnieszka loves her valley home, her quiet village, the forests and the bright shining river. But the corrupted wood stands on the border, full of malevolent power, and its shadow lies over her life. Her people rely on the cold, ambitious wizard, known only as the Dragon, to keep the wood’s powers at bay. But he demands a terrible price for his help: one young woman must be handed over to serve him for ten years, a fate almost as terrible as being lost to the wood. The next choosing is fast approaching, and Agnieszka is afraid. She knows – everyone knows – that the Dragon will take Kasia: beautiful, graceful, brave Kasia – all the things Agnieszka isn’t – and her dearest friend in the world. And there is no way to save her. But no one can predict how or why the Dragon chooses a girl. And when he comes, it is not Kasia he will take with him.
The setlist (alluding to events but not directly spoiling):
Continuing from question 2, who would be your dream cast?
I looked around at fan casting since I didn’t have any planned myself, and I’ve settled on the following: I’d say Hailee Steinfeld for Agnieszka, Elle Fanning for Kasia and Aneurin Barnard for The Dragon
If you could travel in time, where would you want to travel and what would you do?
Probably into the future, assuming humanity doesn’t crash and burn by ignoring global warming or blowing each other up or pissing off an alien race or being smacked by a gamma ray from andromeda…. Actually, I’ll stay in right now, thanks.
If real life was a fantasy book, what kind of character would you be? (Rebel, assassin, warrior, adventurer etc…)
I’d be one of those people where the main characters show up at my house/inn/pub/whatever and I’d give them food and stuff. I’d totally be a side character.
What is your favourite beginning to a new book or book series?
Harry Potter, definitely. Last words of the first chapter in the first book? Chills, people.
If you were to write a book or book series, what would it be about?
I’ve had a plot bunny in my head for five years now – each year I attempt to write it out for Nanowrimo and it never ends up how I want it. So that idea. Not gonna mention it just in case it actually ends up on paper at some point.
Clay/ air gun shooting, running, climbing, horse riding, hiking. How would you order these from best to worst?
Hiking, Clay/air gun shooting, climbing, horse riding, running. I have no stamina. Running is definitely last for me.
Would you rather be a bookseller, but you are never able to read another book again or an author, but you can only read the stories you’ve written?
An author. At least this way I can still read.
Would you rather be: a demi-god, shadowhunter or peculiar? Why?
I’m assuming you mean peculiar from the peregrine books. Peculiar. Haven’t read enough of the others to know their advantages.
If you were a demi-god, who would your godly parent be and if you were peculiar, what would be your peculiarity?
I’ve always liked Artemis. And knowing me, I’d probably get stuck with something dumb like the ability to grow my hair really fast. :”D
And that’s it! Thank you for tagging me! As I’ve been on a bit of a tagging spree lately and I haven’t seen any of the posts show up yet I’m not going to tag anymore – I’d just be adding to the pile. xD
I’m going to create questions though, in case anyone would like to consider themselves tagged:
What is your favorite time of day to read?
Do you listen to music while reading? What kind?
In a book-to-movie adaptation of a book you’ve read, who do you think they casted really well? Who do you think was way off the mark?
Do you read different genres during different seasons?
Do you like audiobooks?
What series do you feel had a great beginning and end but awful middle?
Do you watch tv in the morning when getting ready for work/school/house stuff? What do you watch?
How do you have your books stored or arranged in your home? Can I see a picture?
What’s your favorite weather for reading?
What’s your favorite nonfiction book?
If you could meet an author and convey your personal wishes for their next book or installment in a series they’re writing, who would be the author and what would you tell them about the book?
Hello! I was nominated in an awardy today, so here it is! :”D It’s come from LouiseLovesBooks and I was nominated back on May 8th. So thank you for thinking of me and sorry it’s taken me so long to post!
The rules for this award are as follows:
Thank the blogger who nominated you and link to their blog in your post
Answer the questions that the blogger who nominated you has provided
Nominate ten other bloggers (or up to 10)
Create ten questions for your nominees and notify them of their nominations
Louise’s Questions for Me:
What was the last book you read?
The last book I finished was Royal Assassinby Robin Hobb. Oh man oh man was it good.
What’s your favourite cartoon character, and why?
At the moment, I’d have to say Tina Belcher from Bob’s Burgers. I just… I relate to her on a spiritual level, okay. She is the personification of my teenage years.
What’s your pet peeve?
It’s a tie – body odor and chewing with your mouth open. Both are things that a person can control by having a bit of hygeine or self-awareness, but it’s incredible how often a person decides they’re okay with regularly having/doing one or the other. Really people. They’re icky.
Do you have a talent, and if so, what?
I can down five cups of coffee a day without having a heart attack. GO ME.
What is your favorite book genre?
Lately I’ve been exploring Sci-fi, so that’d be my current favorite. Overall though, probably fantasy.
If you could have an endless supply of food, what would it be?
Mozarella sticks. The amount of time I spend craving those damn delicious cheese cylinders would make a grown man cry.
What was the last book you’ DNF’d?
Had to look it up – honestly doesn’t happen too often. It was The Warrior Heir by Cinda Williams Chima. Why? I couldn’t get into it. I’m starting to think that urban fantasy might not be my thing.
How would you spend one million pounds/dollars?
Dollars for me. Well, let me just write you a to-do list and you can just assume I’d do these in order:
Pay off student loans
Pay off car loan
Pay off credit card
Pay off any outstanding debt my parents have
Give a good chunk of it to my parents for retirement
Give a good chunk of it to myself for retirement
Go on a really nice vacation with my lovey – Hawaii, Italy, Japan.. somewhere neato.
Put the rest of it in some kind of interest accruing savings account.
I feel like if I knew or understood how normally wealthy people dealt with money, this list would be a lot different. Who knows, maybe I’d do the last thing first and slowly do the rest with the interest. I have no clue.
Would you rather be invisible or be able to read minds?
I’d rather be invisible. I feel like reading minds would cause a lot of trouble for my personal relationships, especially if I couldn’t turn it on and off.
If you could live in any period of history, when would it be?
Right now, actually. Assuming I can’t go into the future, I’d rather stay at now. I feel like the farther back I’d go, the more likely it would be that I’d be uneducated, not respected, and not seen as anything except a bargaining chip. So now is good, thanks.
I nominate:
Ace (I know you’ve done this already, but DO IT AGAIN)
Hello! It’s Sunday the 6th and I’m on spring break! I’ve slowly been accumulating tags and posts that I’ve been meaning to do and now is my chance to bang them all out on my keyboard! So if you’ve tagged me in anything recently, please remind me! My memory is horrid. I might just make a new page on my blog called ‘Stuff Emily was tagged in but hasn’t posted yet because she’s a ding dong’ to help me keep track of everything.
Anyways, I was nominated for the Book Fangirling Award by Orang-utan Librarian. Thank you! :”D Reading through this one, it looks like tons of fun. (And I know you’ve since tagged me in one other thing. Just one, right? I’m not forgetting anything?! @@) So anyways, onto the award!

Orang-utan Librarian’s questions to me
What’s your favourite fandom?
Definitely the Inuyasha fandom. I haven’t really participated too much in it since I was a teenager, but that’s where I met a lot of my now closest friends online. Inuyasha at this point makes me feel really nostalgic. It was my favorite show/manga when I was in my mid to late teens and therefore I consider it part of my ‘becoming an individual’ years, I guess. Whenever I see it on TV, I watch it and sit there and remember all the people around me and everything that happened when I was younger. I’m feeling nostalgic just thinking of it now, actually. xD I still collect the manga. I think the series has completed, but I only have up through the early 20s in volumes. Long way to go, haha.
What book/series/character etc do you fangirl over the most?
My first ‘fangirling’ occurred when I was sixteen and was watching, you guessed it, Inuyasha. In the series, the main character has a brother named Sesshoumaru, who I became a tad obsessed with. I read fanfiction about the guy, I went out and bought the little plush version of him, yada yada. I liked him so much because he was such a strong and calm cool collected character that you’d think he was an ice block, but at the same time, he obviously had a softer maybe even humorous side that you didn’t get the see in the series but was alluded to heavily, if that makes sense. It made for a lot of really good fanfiction, let me tell ya.
What book series has a massive fanbase, but you couldn’t get on board with it?
That would be the Twilight series. I’m actually one of ‘those people’. The ones that read the series, decided it wasn’t awful, but then came to hate it when it took off and became really popular. Why? The fans. (If you’re a fan, don’t take this personally). A few of my friends became die hard fans and just the amount they talked about it and tried to force shippings down my throat and got angry at me, angry, when I didn’t agree or didn’t feel as strongly got really annoying really quickly. So I dissociated myself from the series. Decided to just call myself someone who disliked it instead of ‘small fan’ just so I didn’t get people saying ‘well you should like it MORE‘. Saying I disliked it was a good deterrent, haha. Like I said, nothing against the series or the people who like it in a normal, healthy manner. Just those around me went a tad crazy and it made me associate it with arguments, so. There you go. xD
Do you have any fandom merch? Please share photos!
I do! I have two anime plushies (Sesshomaru from Inuyasha and Kenshin from Rurouni Kenshin), and various anime keychains, T-shirts and action figures, but they’re all at my parents’ place in storage, so I can’t take a picture. 😦 I also have a wallet with Jake’s face on it from Adventure Time and the pocket watch from Fullmetal Alchemist! And I actually have a picture of that one! I’m sure I have a few other things here and there, but like I said, a lot of it is in storage. I’m moving in a couple weeks though, so I’ll have to go home and go through it all – maybe I’ll make a dedicated post to merch. xD
The pocket watch (It even says ‘Don’t forget on the inside! I about died when I saw it):
What’s the best name for any fandom you’ve ever heard? (Whether or not you’re a part of it)
That would be the Cumberbitches, fans of Benedict Cumberbatch, who if you don’t know plays Sherlock in BBC’s Sherlock. And a name even better I think, is the one he came up with himself. When he heard his fans were calling themselves Cumberbitches, he was all ‘You shouldn’t call yourself a bad name. You can all be the Cumbercookies! That way when you come together, you’re a Cumberbatch!’. GET IT?! GET IT?! I like that guy, he’s good.
How many fandoms would you call yourself an ‘active participant’ in and what are they?
Do you read fanfiction in your fandoms? If so, share your favorite one!
(Stealing Orang-utan Librarian’s question) Do you have any merch? If so, take a picture!
Is there a character/series/show that you would like to become a fan of but don’t know where to start?
Have you made any friends purely from being a member of a fandom? Are you still friend with these people? If they’re internet friends, have you met up with any in real life? Do you plan to?
And that’s it! This award made me feel really nostalgic, man. I need to go rewatch Inuyasha now, thank you. And when I was writing this, I was tagged in one of those ‘you never forget the kids you grew up with’ posts on facebook. What are the odds. xD They’re all the ones I watched Inuyasha with, haha.
I’ve been nominated for these lovely awards by Orang-utanLibrarian! and Zezee with Books! So thank you! I’ve actually done one of these awards last year as well, but I figured since it was a different person nominating and asking different questions, that I would make a second post. 😀

Orang-utan Librarian’s Questions for me:
Jump around like a jackrabbit cos I just nominated you- how does that feel? Was anyone watching?
Lovely and no. 😀
School, uni or work?
The latter two. Both. Icky.
What’s your favourite TV show at the moment?
At the moment, X-Files, but it flops around all over the place.
Do you like to travel? If so, what’s your favourite place you’ve been to?
Yes. Paris! I’ve been there twice, would love to go back.
What book reminds you most of sisterhood?
Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants? :”D
Share a blogger (who you’re not nominating) but want to give a shout out to!
Returntofitra! She hasn’t posted in a while, but she’s been one of my best friends since I was 15 years old. So a decade now.
What’s your favourite post you’ve ever written- share the link if you can!
Did you have a favourite toy growing up? What was it called?
My pink teddy bear. His name was Teddy. xD
What villain (from any book, movie or show) would you actually quite like to hang out with?
Probably Nimona from Nimona. I feel like she’s one of the few that wouldn’t actively try to kill me.
What’s your favourite fairytale?
I’m not sure, honestly. I haven’t read too many. Maybe Beauty and the Beast? The Disney version not the Grimm version. shudder.
Since I’ve done this one before, I’m not going to nominate anyone. But thank you again for nominating me!
Encouraging Thunder Award
The rules:
Thank your nominator.
Tell the world why you blog.
Nominate 5 more people.
I blog because it gives me a creative outlet. I keep telling myself to write a book, but honestly that’s not going to happen, at least not until I’m retired and old and moldy. So this allows me a bit of creativity without forcing me to pound out several thousand words of it on a deadline.
I was nominated by Orang-utan Librarian, so thank you! And sorry it took me this long to post it! 😀
Rules:
Post the rules before starting and link back to this post as a reference for other bloggers.
Part A: Answer each of the fruit questions (each fruit corresponds to a book!) & add pictures plus why you thought that particular book deserves that particular fruit if possible.
Part B:Choose your favourite fruit (even if it is one of the fruits in part A). Come up with a question that we didn’t ask and answer it.
Part C:Create your own smoothie from the fruits in Part A (imagine a Lemon-Tomato-Apple smoothie ~ yuck), and find a book that would correlate to your smoothie!
Nominate as many and anyone that you think are deserving of this award but it would be nice if you nominated a minimum of 5!
Notify your nominees of the nomination.
The most important rules? Have fun and of course, keep it fresh!
Part A: Fruit Questions
1. Strawberries – Name the sweetest book you’ve read. (e.g. sweet in terms of the characters or if the story takes place in a sweet world… etc.)
Fruits Basket by Natsuki Takaya. This series is totally adorable and the main character is a real sweetie. I want to be her friend. 😀
2. Coconut – What is a book that you would bring on vacation with you to a tropical destination? (Or if you’re just relaxing at the beach…)
1Q84 by Haruki Murakami. I tend to like bringing really fat books on vacation with me so I only have to bring one book instead of three. And this book is a chunk. I’ve been meaning to read it for ages and if I go on vacation this year, this is the one I’m going to bring (unless I read it beforehand)
3. Pineapple – What is a book that you didn’t think you would like by judging its cover/summary/the first few pages but started to grow on you?
Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas. It just didn’t sound like something I’d enjoy and honestly the hype was really off-putting. And in some cases, I was correct. I still don’t totally like the main character, but the world the book takes place in is pretty neat. So now I’m in book three which has actually changed focus from the goofy main character to the world building so the book for me has gotten much more enjoyable.
4. Orange – What’s the juiciest book you’ve read? (e.g. A book with tons of action, romance… etc.)
Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden. This book has romance elements in it but I wouldn’t classify it totally as a romance (though I’m sure that could be  disputed). This book though I feel is the total package. It’s completely enthralling.
5. Watermelon – A watery book (e.g. There wasn’t tons of substance to the book/the details were just too watery…etc. Don’t get us wrong though, we love watermelons!)
Dumplin’ by Jule Murphy. I choose this one because this book kinda fell flat for me. Nothing really happened. Like, there was the hints that things were going to happen, but then it just kinda tapered off. Not saying it was a bad book, but there wasn’t much substance to it.
6. Dragonfruit – What’s the most unique book you’ve read? (e.g. Unique in writing style, characters, plot… etc.)
Fullmetal Alchemist by Hiromu Arakawa. This is definitely an awesome series. It has so many twists and turns and shocks. The plot is completely awesome, as are the characters. I can’t recommend this series enough. It’s fantastic. And you’ll never read anything like it again.
7. Lemons – Name a book that made you feel sour. (e.g. The emotions were just sour, you just felt sour reading the book, or the book includes sour characters… etc.)
Rumble by Ellen Hopkins. If you’ve been around my blog for a while, then you know I hate this book. It’s just so bland and the characters are unreasonable and the plot is just beh. My face was scrunched up for a good while after finishing this one, lemme tell ya. I wrote a full review (see ‘rant’) on it if you feel the overwhelming need to know why I find it awful.
8. Tomato – What is a wonderful book that you think should be more widely known? Or a fantastic author whom you think deserves more recognition? (Since some may not know that tomatoes are actually fruits!)
I’ve said this before and I’ll keep saying it until someone reads it and tells me that they did. The Relic Master series by Catherine Fisher deserves far more attention than it gets. I read it after hearing absolutely nothing about it, picked it up on a whim, and then binged through all four books. This series is awesome and imaginative and I love it. Somebody read it, dammit.
9. Apple – Name a really stereotypical book of a certain genre just like apples which are typical fruits. In the end was that book good or not? (e.g. A very typical contemporary/fantasy book… etc.)
Legend by Marie Lu is the most ‘dystopian YA’-y book I’ve ever read. This book was alright. I liked it. It didn’t particularly stick out as anything special though. But it was enjoyable. As far as being stereotypical, let me count the ways:
Dystopian society
One main character teenage girl who is somehow in a position of power
Other main character ‘rebel’ type, also somehow particularly skilled
Teenage boy opens teenage girl’s eyes to the ‘truth’
Both are the only ones who see an issue with the society
Epic adventure of infiltration
Adults in series are ding dongs
Side characters are rough-and-tumble get-er-done
So yeah. Enjoyable but nothing new and certainly nothing unique
10. Blueberries – Name a book that made you feel blue. (Any sad, depressing books that you’ve read?)
11. Grapefruit – Any bitter books? (e.g. a book that was blue but MORE… do you have any bitter resentments towards characters from a book? Any sour turned bitter emotions? Any uber hateful villains?)
Can… can I use a TV show here? This is a spoilerfor American Horror Story: Hotel, so if you haven’t seen the series finale yet, skip this answer.
I’m choosing the finale of Hotel as a whole. I mean. It was all a little too convenient, don’t you think? I kept waiting, pleading, that something awful would happen but it didn’t. The ending was happy. For everyone. That’s not how American Horror Story is supposed to be. It’s supposed to end horridly. I just. I was so disappointed. I’m bitter. 😛 It was a yucky finale.
12. Jackfruit – Name the most physically heavy book that you’ve ever read. (Because jackfruits are pretty heavy fruits!)
I’m going to semi-cheat here and say my Abnormal Psychology textbook I had to read when I took Psychopathology back when I was getting my psych degree. That textbook in particular was dense. I had other books bigger than this one, but this was by far the heaviest. And I needed to use it in class too, so I had to lug it back and forth every day. Goodness. (also wtf is a jackfruit)
13. Limes – Name a funny book that you’ve read because limes add flavour and so does humour with every book.
The Amulet of Samarkand by Jonathan Stroud. This is the first book in the Bartimaeus trilogy and while it was a fantasy and not a comedy, the djinn in this book was a real character. He was hysterical and remains one of my favorite characters in any book ever. Highly recommend this one.
Part B: Favorite Fruit
Choose your favorite fruit and then choose a book that would correspond the best and if your fruit is already taken on our list, make up your own question and answer it.
How are bananas not on this list. Bananas are the BEST. So my question is ‘Bananas:Â A character in a book that you feel isn’t given the credit they deserve’
And my answer for that is Annie Montrose from The Martian. This character is hilarious – she’s the PR person and she has to deal with a lot of stuff and figuring out how it’s to be told to the public. And the whole time, she swears like a sailor. It’s great, I love her.
Part C: Fruit Smoothies
Finally, choose a book that was a mix of some of these fruits to make your own smoothie. (e.g. A strawberry blueberry lemon smoothie would correlate to a sweet and sad but sour book.)
Scar Night by Alan Campbell, the first book in the Deepgate Codex, one of my favorite series ever, would be a coconut, pineapple orange smoothie (which actually sounds pretty good). READ IT PEOPLE.
And that’s it!
This was a lot of fun! I nominate Panda, Ace, Nora and Analee! If you’ve done it already, sorry, I wasn’t paying attention because I’m a ding dong. :”D Hee hee.
Hello. 😀 I was nominated by Ace to do this, so thank you ladyface. Also, if anyone has tagged me in anything within the past month and I haven’t done the post for it, please kindly remind me. I really need to start keeping track of this stuff. If I haven’t done something you’ve tagged me in, it’s because I forgot I was tagged and can’t find a log of it all, so. @@ Apologies.
Anyways, onto this awardy.
Rules:
You must thank person who nominated you and include a link to their blog
You must list the rules and display the award

7 Facts About Me:
I feel like my taste buds are committing a mutiny against me. Within the last five years, they decided a lot of foods that I previously hated with a passion are suddenly delicious. I’m not complaining I suppose (I mean, tasty food is always good) but I’m so confused why it’s so many foods so damn quickly. They include: Coffee, guacamole, hummus, coconut, macaroni salad, mustard, bacon, ketchup, beer, liquor, relish… the list goes on.
I don’t take selfies. Ever. If you ever see me in a selfie, it was taken by someone else in the shot and it was 100% their idea. I’m not against them or anything, I just feel like there are far more interesting things to show people pictures of than my face. Like books for example. Or cats.
My SO and I are planning on moving to a new apartment this coming February or March. Hopefully this move will allow me to put all my books in one place for once, along the same wall or same corner. I mean really. About 1/3 of them are in my living room, 1/3 in my bedroom and 1/3 still at my parents’ house in storage. I MISS MY BOOKIES.
I think the worst chore in the world is putting laundry away. I don’t know why I hate it so much, just that I do. I’ll do the dishes, take out the trash, even clean the toilet before I agree to fold laundry. I don’t mind doing laundry, but the after-folding is the worst. So unless my SO does it, it sits on the bed, then the chair, then the bed, then the chair.
I have this awful habit of buying a lot of books, seeing one I don’t own yet but want to read, thinking ‘Oh I just bought some, so I should get this one from the library’, reading that book and some other library books, thinking ‘I’ve read a lot lately, gonna buy books’, buying books, seeing one I don’t own yet but want to read, thinking ‘Oh I just bought some, so I should get this one from the library’, yada yada yada.
The whole reason I have a degree in psychology (studying comp sci now though) is because when I was sixteen, I ran across this butthead online who claimed to have schizophrenia but acted out having multiple personalities. I did some research on it, found out the two are completely different disorders, but by that point, I had cut ties with said butthead so I never got to call him out on it. He was so full of it, lemme tell you. Anyways, doing the research got me interested in psychology as a whole, which led to me majoring in it when I got to college. So thank you, butthead.
There has never been a carton of milk that my SO and I bought that we finished before the expiration date. We try, but we never get there. I buy the smallest ones I can, too. They’re quart sized! Still can’t finish them. The day we do, the earth will split open and the apocalypse will start.
And that’s it! I’ve seen this award floating around a lot of the people I normally tag, so I’m not going to tag anyone. Though if you would like to do this, consider yourself tagged by me. 😀
So if you’ve been paying attention to my tentative blogmas list (though I don’t know why you would) I was to post a book review today. Well, haven’t even started the book yet, so obviously that’s getting pushed back. But! I have been nominated for the Real Neat Blog Award by Zezee! So thank you! 😀
The rules are as follows:
Thank and link the person who nominated you.
Answer the 7 questions your nominator has provided.
Nominate 7 other bloggers and create 7 questions for them.
Zezee’s questions for me:
Do you read horror novels? If so, which one do you recommend?
I do every so often, but I haven’t read too many. Recommendation: The Monstrumologist by Rick Yancey
Ever had a vivid dream based on a book you read? Which book was it? Was it one you enjoyed?
I haven’t. My dreams aren’t usually too vivid. Every so often I have a dream that breaks out of the norm and that I feel like would be a good book, but nothing that is already a book.
Do you read many mysteries? If you do, do you read the ending and spoil yourself because you can’t stand the suspense?
Nope! And when I do, also nope!
Who’s your favorite writer and why?
For the longest time, they were Alan Campbell and Naomi Novik, who wrote my favorites series The Deepgate Codex and The Temeraire series, but lately Patrick Ness has been making his way up the list. Patrick Neeeeessssss
Who’s your favorite storyteller and why?
My cousin. She always has stories for me when I meet up with her. They’re always so fun. 😀
Do you get angry at all the characters when hungry, even the nice ones?
Can’t say I have. xD I’d have to be pretty hungry, haha.
I got nominated for an award :”D It was done by Meredith, so thank you muchly. The point of this award is to recognize bloggers who bring sunlight into your life from being creative, inspiring and positive in their posts.
Rules:
– Answer the 11 questions from the blogger who nominated you.
– Nominate some wonderful bloggers and write 11 questions for them to answer.
Here are the questions Meredith asked me:
What’s your favorite season of the year (ex. fall, winter) and why?
Fall, definitely. Summer’s too hot, winter’s too cold. Springs okay, but fall has death to bugs, so I like it a lot more. And I like fall colors more than spring colors :”D AND SAY NOTHING ABOUT PUMPKIN SPICE LATTES THEY’RE DELICIOUS AND YOU KNOW IT.
If you happened to borrow Mr. Peabody’s Wabac (time-machine), what time period would you visit?
This one’s a hard question. I think I’d go back to one of those ‘mysterious disappearance’ places and find out what happened to everybody. Odds are I’d be scarred for life or get wiped out with them, but at least I’d know for sure and I’d leave a note under a rock or something for archaeologists to find saying “A whole bunch of sharks leaped out of the water and ate us all” or something like that. The one that interests me most at the moment is one I added a book about to my tbr on a few weeks ago, so it showed up in a friday finds post. I want to know what happened to the Anasazi people. They were a tribe of people who lived in what is now Nevada area. Their technological advances rivaled the Mayans, and then one day they vanished. Nobody knows what happened to them. I think I’d go back in time to then and find out.
Who is your favorite character in The Lion King? If you haven’t watched it, shame on you.
Pumba. I feel like I could hug him anytime I wanted and he’d totally be okay with it. Everyone else would try to eat me.
Current favorite song?
I very much appreciate that you added ‘current’ to that question.
If you were forced to play a card game, and your life was the prize, which game would you prefer playing? (ex. poker, black jack, etc.)
Probably Cards Against Humanity, because I’m pretty good at being terrible. I’d use my scumbagness to save my life :”D
What is your favorite book series of all time?
This is hard. D: This is an unfair question and you know it. I want to say Harry Potter just because it’s my entire childhood and teenagerhood and every time I reread it I like it just as much. But at the same time, I there are others that are recent finds that I love so much too. So I’m just going to say Harry Potter, purely because I still enjoy it after 16 years.
Do you enjoy camping?
I’ve never been camping. :”D But I would assume no because I don’t like bugs.
What’s your preferred type of weather?
Stormy. The thundery-er the better.
What’s the quickest time it has taken you to finish a book?
I’m thinking one day, but that’s really rare. I have never read a book in one sitting. Even if I finish it within a day, it’s from two or three sittings. I just can’t sit still that long, I get fidgety.
Have you ever ridden a horse?
Nope!
How many books have you read this year so far?
80. My goal is 100, so if I keep going at this pace, I should do fine. :”D
Abookishowl (I need a name to call you! Real name, internet name, dun matter! Just a name! xD)
If you’ve done this award or aren’t interested in doing it, that’s totally fine :”D If you do want to do it, tell me when you do so I can read it! Here are my questions for all of you:
Do you drink coffee? If so, how do you take it?
What’s your favorite thing to do on a Saturday morning?
Do you have an interest or hobby that you don’t have anybody nearby who also likes it to talk and nerd about it with? What is it?
What is currently your favorite song?
What is currently your favorite movie?
How spicy or not-spicy do you like your food?
What’s your favorite quote?
What’s your style of clothing?
Do you have a bucketlist? What’s your number one thing on it?
This hobby blog is dedicated to movie nerdom, nostalgia, and the occasional escape. In the late 90s, I worked at Blockbuster Video, where they let me take home two free movies a day. I caught up on the classics and reviewed theatrical releases for Denver 'burbs newspapers and magazines. When time is free between teaching high school music and being a dad, movies are standard.
