2018 Reading Resolutions Check In

2018 Reading Resolutions

Today I determine which reading goals I’ve achieved, which I’m on the track to, and which to call it quits on and abandon. I know I’m not doing terribly, but I’m not doing as well as I had hoped, either. Here goes nothin’.

At the beginning of this year, I made two posts, one entitled 2018 Reading Resolutions and the other called 10 in 2018. The first is exactly as it sounds, in addition to personal and blog goals as well. The second is a list of books I want to read this year. I’ll review my progress on both posts.

2018 Reading Resolutions

Book Related:

  • Complete my Goodreads Challenge of 40 books – Complete!

Currently sitting at 43!

  • Complete my 10 in 2018 list of books – In Progress

List will be shown below!

  • Keep book buying low – no more than 6-8 books every three months – Kinda failed

I’ve been averaging about 10 books per three months, not 8. So not crazy, but a bit higher than I’ve wanted.

I will liiiikely not achieve this one by the end of the year though, who am I kidding.

Did it! I even won some books from it, too!

I really love the idea of this challenge, but I was a bit discouraged by how you can only submit so many books before it’ll only let you submit retail reviews you’ve written. So I kinda stopped participating in this one after I started consistently getting passed the allotted number of books it’ll let you put in.

Blog Related:

  • Post seasonal (not monthly) book hauls – In Progress

Good so far!

  • Maintain a S-W-S posting schedule – In Progress

I’ve actually upped it to a S-T-W-S schedule recently.

  • Keep my To Do list of pending tags under five items at any one time – In Progress

Good!

This one I actually doing need to do anymore. I changed the layout of my blog to automatically keep a list so I don’t have to.

  • Write blabbers for at least 1/3 of the books I read – In Progress

I’m not sure what the ratio is off the top of my head, but I’m pretty sure I’m close.

Personal Resolutions:

  • Exercise two times per week – In Progress

Was iffy there for a while but I’m solidly doing well on this now. 😀

  • Log all meals in MyFitnessPal – In Progress

Same as above, I tend to fluctuate, but currently am doing pretty good.

  • Make a wedding/honeymoon scrapbook – Not started

ONE DAY.

  • Make a budget – Not started

ONE DAY

  • Start saving for a house – Not started

ONE DAY

  • Take care of my health as issues arise – In Progress

I’d like to say I’m totally on top of it, but I was also carted to the hospital in an ambulance a week and a half ago, so. But! Now I have an official diagnosis, so am ‘on top of it’ again, woo. MY HEART IS AN ASSHOLE

  • Learn Python and R – Not started.

ONE DAY

  • Maintain a Duolingo streak – Kinda failed

I broke it, but have been meaning to pick it back up again. If I have a good streak going by Christmas I’ll consider this one a success

Need to pick up the pace a bit me thinks.

And that’s it! How are you doing on your goals, if you set any? Happy reading!

Bout of Books 20 | Day 5 Update

Bout of Books

Hello! Welcome to Saturday. :”D My last update was on Wednesday, so I have about three days worth of reading to cover.

Since then, I’ve read:

  • 5 chapters of fanfiction
  • The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss – audiobook: 6ish hours ~140 pages (finished it!)
  • The Broken Eye by Brent Weeks – 53 pages
  • Embassytown by China Mieville – audiobook: 2ish hours ~90 pages

So, not too much page-wise but 8 hours of audio in 3 days is a lot. :”D Hope anyone who’s participating is doing well! Happy reading

April Wrap Up | ’17

Happy end-of-April!

This month was bananas. Between coding projects being due and prepping for graduation and starting to plan a honeymoon, my reading has kinda pattered out a bit. Woops. But! I still got some reading done, haah.

This month, I finished one novel and one graphic novel

The Traitor Baru Cormorant by Seth Dickinson

The Traitor Baru CormorantI seriously enjoyed this book. I wrote a blabber on it, going into all the reasons why I enjoyed this book. It’s a geopolitical fantasy following a main character’s who’s as sharp as a tack as she tries to take down an empire from within. I seriously seriously recommend it (and btw, check out the blabber. Shameless plug! :”D)

5/5 stars

Saga volume 7 by Brian K Vaughan

Saga, Vol. 7A friend told me today that she can never give a book that makes her feel sad a five star rating. I found that interesting, because that’s the reason this book got such a rating from me. Continuing the Saga series, the volume holds up just as well as the previous ones. I really enjoyed it.

5/5 stars

r/Fantasy Bingo 2017

I’ve decided to use the template provided by Millenium_Dodo here, which you can as well if you’re participating. :”D I’ve noticed my progression looks like it’s going in-order of the challenges… totally not intended, hawhaw. But woot, 2 out of 2 books I read this month qualify for the challenge!

Progress on 2017 Reading Goals:

Complete a Goodreads Reading Challenge of 50 Books: 21/50

Count how many books I own and determine how many are not yet read – Was complete, need to do again.

Discard books I don’t like or lose interest in reading – None this month, but I kept my eye out.

Read all of the books on my 17 in 2017 list – 3/17

And that’s it for April. I was right to predict at the end of last month’s wrap-up that I wouldn’t read too much. Hopefully in May I can read more. I’ve finished my project for classes so all my workload has essentially vanished. Just need to put the finishing touches on some stuff today and then that’s it, yo.

Happy reading!

#TBRTakeDown progress update

Hello! Today is February 9th, the half way point in the tbrtakedown readathon. If you saw my previous post, I made a TBR that listed five books fulfilling five challenges. Here is my progress on them as of this morning:

Attack on Titan, Volume 11Attack on Titan vol 11 by Hajime Isayama – Complete!

Mushishi, Vol. 1Mushishi vol 1 by Yuki Urushibara – Complete!

The Traitor Baru CormorantThe Traitor Baru Cormorant by Seth Dickinson – In progress

Y: The Last Man, Vol. 7: Paper Dolls (Y: The Last Man, #7)Y: The Last Man vol 7 by Brian K Vaughan – Not yet started

JoylandJoyland by Stephen King – Not yet started

.

Honestly at this point, I’ll be happy if I finish one of the two novels I have listed. I plan on definitely getting through Y: The Last Man so all the graphic novels and manga will be done, but I’m not sure I can swing both those novels. I started The Traitor Baru Cormorant the other day and so far am very much enjoying it. It’s one of those novels though where you feel like you read 200 pages of information and it turns out you’ve only read 50. This book is dense, man. I love it, but it’s soooo dense to me. My goal is to finish it by Sunday night when the readathon ends. Wish me luck!

NaNoWriMo 2016 – Week 2

NaNoWriMo 2016 Participant Banner

The word count goal for the end of today is 23,333. My current word count is 9,359. So yes, I’m very far behind. 😛 Classes are killing me. I’m still planning on trying a 10k saturday on Nov 26th, but we’ll see how far that gets me. At this point, if I make 25k words by the end of the month, I’ll be happy, haha.

To those who are in my boat, I feel you. To those who are succeeding, go you! I wish I had your self-discipline. :”D

Maybe I’ll do better next year when I’m not in classes anymore. That tends to be a pattern. The two years I’ve won, there have been no classes to worry about. Coincidence? Me thinks not.

Day 3 is done. My ears, they bleed.

Reading Completed:

The Time Machine by H.G. Wells: 8 pages
A Storm of Swords by George R.R. Martin: 175 minutes listened

Running total: 461 pages read, 205 minutes listened

If you notice, I didn’t finish The Time Machine like I intended. I started it and even though it’s really short, I might just put it down for now. Not ‘not-finish’ing it by any means, but I feel like if I sit down to read this, it’ll slow down the rest of my reading, if that makes sense. I like the book, but I don’t feel like it’s good readathon material. Woop.

Challenge Completed:

My Favorite (Heart-Stoppers)

Continue A Storm of Swords
Attempt to continue The Time Machine, but pick up another book if it’s not happening
Participate in today’s challenge

Progress on goal:

Write a review on each book completed: 1/1
