Bout of Books 20 | Day 2 Update

Bout of Books

Hello! Happy three-days-into-boutofbooks-day! I quickly realized that daily updates this time around aren’t doable for me… so every other day, every three days it is!

Progress:

The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss – roughly 100 pages (3.5 hours listened)

The Broken Eye by Brent Weeks – 20 pages

And actually… I picked up a fanfiction this week, something I haven’t done in years. I’ve read a whopping 20 chapters of that over the past two days… so that’s where all my reading time has gone, haha. Not goodreads trackable, but reading is reading! 😀 And I’m very much enjoying it.

And that’s it! See you all in a couple days. :”D

Bout of Books 19 | Day 6 Update

Bout of Books

I finished A Court of Wings and Ruin, woo! I’ve also written a spoiler-free blabber on it, which you can check out here if you’re interested. 😛

Reading completed:

A Court of Wings and Ruin: 77 pages

Chew vol 1: 128 pages

Best day yet. :”D Today’s the last day, so tomorrow will be the readathon wrap-up. Woo!

Bout of Books 19 | Day 5 Update

Bout of Books

Hello, I graduated college today! 😀 And on Monday, I’m officially a software developer with health insurance and a 401k and errthing! Woo! So I read a bit yesterday – I didn’t finish the book as I had hoped. This morning was commencement so I read for about 40 minutes over coffee before the chaos began… so this update will include this morning, too.

I’m really hopin’ to finish this book tomorrow, and then get through those manga and graphic novels I’ve listed in the readathon TBR too. Wish me luck!

Reading completed:

A Court of Wings and Ruin: 70 pages

Bout of Book 19 | Day 2 Update

Bout of Books

Welcome to day 3! I got a bit more done in day 2 than day 1 but still not as much as I’d like. But hey, I’m still on track for my ‘read every day’ goal, so I’m okay with it, yo.

Reading completed:

A Court of Wings and Ruin: 81 pages

The Gene: An Intimate History: 25 minutes

I realized yesterday morning that I didn’t include the above audiobook in my TBR… whoops. I’m already about 40% through it, so it’s totally on my TBR. IT COUNTS!! D:

And that’s it! I’m going to half price books today so …. a haul is in my future, hawhaw. Hopefully I’ll get a few graphic novels I can buzz through for this readathon. :”D

Happy reading!

#TBRTakeDown progress update

Hello! Today is February 9th, the half way point in the tbrtakedown readathon. If you saw my previous post, I made a TBR that listed five books fulfilling five challenges. Here is my progress on them as of this morning:

Attack on Titan, Volume 11Attack on Titan vol 11 by Hajime Isayama – Complete!

Mushishi, Vol. 1Mushishi vol 1 by Yuki Urushibara – Complete!

The Traitor Baru CormorantThe Traitor Baru Cormorant by Seth Dickinson – In progress

Y: The Last Man, Vol. 7: Paper Dolls (Y: The Last Man, #7)Y: The Last Man vol 7 by Brian K Vaughan – Not yet started

JoylandJoyland by Stephen King – Not yet started

.

Honestly at this point, I’ll be happy if I finish one of the two novels I have listed. I plan on definitely getting through Y: The Last Man so all the graphic novels and manga will be done, but I’m not sure I can swing both those novels. I started The Traitor Baru Cormorant the other day and so far am very much enjoying it. It’s one of those novels though where you feel like you read 200 pages of information and it turns out you’ve only read 50. This book is dense, man. I love it, but it’s soooo dense to me. My goal is to finish it by Sunday night when the readathon ends. Wish me luck!

NaNoWriMo 2016 – Week 2

NaNoWriMo 2016 Participant Banner

The word count goal for the end of today is 23,333. My current word count is 9,359. So yes, I’m very far behind. 😛 Classes are killing me. I’m still planning on trying a 10k saturday on Nov 26th, but we’ll see how far that gets me. At this point, if I make 25k words by the end of the month, I’ll be happy, haha.

To those who are in my boat, I feel you. To those who are succeeding, go you! I wish I had your self-discipline. :”D

Maybe I’ll do better next year when I’m not in classes anymore. That tends to be a pattern. The two years I’ve won, there have been no classes to worry about. Coincidence? Me thinks not.

Mid-Year Reading Madness

It’s half way through what is turning into a really weird year. Seriously, it has been bizarre. But at least I’ve read some decent books during the thing.

At the end of last year, I made a few different posts in which I set reading goals for myself for this year. And very recently, I made another post setting a book buying limit for myself. Those can be found here:

16 in 2016

TBR Jar Challenge/Read Harder Challenge

2016 Reading Resolutions

Book Buying Limit

And here’s how I am doing on those goals:

16 in 2016:

The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien
Weave World by Clive Barker
Storm of Swords by George RR Martin – read!
The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan
The Future of the Mind by Michio Kaku
The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (illustrated) by JK Rowling
14 by Peter Clines
The Curse of the Wendigo by Rick Yancey
Sea of Ghosts by Alan Campbell
Breakable by Tammara Webber – read!
Fired Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe by Fannie Flag
Across the Nightingale Floor by Gillian Rubinstein
1Q84 by Haruki Murakami
Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

I have read two. :”D Out of sixteen. Heeeee. Looking through this list, the rest of them are still books I want to read, so hopefully it’ll happen. If I get ten of them done at this point, I’ll be happy with myself.

TBR Jar Challenge/Read Harder Challenge:

Read a book over 500 pages: Heir of Fire by Sarah J Maas
Read a horror book: Locke & Key volume 1 by Joe Hill
Read a collection of Essays: Bad Feminist
Read a book under 100 pages: I am a Pole (And So Can You!)
Read a non-superhero comic that debuted in the last three years: Through the Woods (2014)
Read a non-fiction book about feminism or dealing with feminist themes: Bad Feminist
Read a Dystopian or Post-Apocalyptic Novel: Life As We Knew It
Read a book originally published in the decade you were born: Assassin’s Apprentice
Read a book that was adapted into a movie, then watch the movie: Flowers for Algernon (movie in progress)
Read a book with a main character that has a mental illness: Flowers for Algernon

10/24. Considering my goal was to complete 12/24 of these, I think I’m doing pretty damn well.

2016 Reading Resolutions:

  • Read 50 books – 25 completed. Right on track!
  • Complete at least half of the Read Harder reading challenge – 10/24 completed. Doing pretty good!
  • Pick up books because they interest me, not just because they’re super hyped – 24/25 books. Pretty good!
  • Put all my books together – pull from my living room, my bedroom and my parents’ house. Need them to be together! In one room! – Completed!
  • Get rid of books I disliked and/or will never reread again – Doing so periodically. Doing good!

I think this is the first year I’ve actually stuck to my goals for the most part. Maybe 2016 isn’t as weird as I thought (or maybe it’s weirder since I’m actually organized. I have no idea)

Book Buying Limit:

My limit is to buy 1 book for every five I read. Well, since posting the original post, I’ve read four book (nearly done with the fifth) and I’ve purchased… zero books! I’m sticking to it! Woot! I should be finishing my fifth book in the next couple days or so – I’m gonna go daydream about which book to buy, hawhaw.

And that’s it! All of the goals I set at the beginning of the year laid out. I’ll still be posting a June wrap-up and likely some kind of mid-year booktag or something. In the meantime, happy reading!!
